Go Paul! :tu:

Try the new version and tell me what you think, I gave the ADSR an overhaul and made it alot better, it's going to be serum/vital style, working on the visuals now.

The snare is something special. Dual cross couples Karplus Strong loops. based on the effect you get when you run a delay at high feedback settings. Turnout, with the right eq in the loop it can get similar sound than a drumskin. Of course a real skin is 2D, and this is 1D, but it feels very alive and is very different form playing a sample. no 2 hits sound the same because noise is used for the trigger + some other values are fluctuating to make it even more realistic. I added reverb first for the room, but left it bonedry now, so you can add your own to taste for the room sound. The kick is stupid easy, just a sine with pitchdrop that is fm modulated with noise, might make a better one later or some variations.

Hey Paul,

So the win installer msi, puts beatforge under Program Files(x86)/Common Files/VST3 <e.g. 32 bit directory) No matter what directory you point it to. You cannot specify the dir for the standalone, I don't actually know if it is being installed or not.

Other than that, I got it working and activated via the lemonsqueezy key, no problem.
Looking good imo :tu:

I'll fix the installer. No worries, next up will be visuals for the ahdsr. moving the entire folder should give no issues.

Post

fixed the installer.
The problem was in my signing/build script — it didn’t mark the app and plugin as 64-bit, so Windows was installing them in the wrong locations.

It’s now fixed:
• The standalone app installs to C:\Program Files\\
• The VST3 plugin installs to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\

Everything should now appear in the correct Windows folders, exactly where modern 64-bit VST3 plugins are expected to be.

Did you still get the windows warnings ? they should go away eventually. Windows seems to be really annoying with this.

Went quite a bit further. Any loop can be treated like a rex file now. used the great Beat This algorithm for auto bpm detections, added Recycle style transient detection an slicing and it's just becoming really fun now..

load samples, slice loops, throw in rex files, control outboard hardware, play with the interal synth etc... have fun with new updates, download at www.beatforge.nl Still have to finish the new manual, but i'm drained now. Have fun with it.

Great stuff Paul! Haven't tried the slicer yet... :tu:

Post

try it, it's fun. I found a bunch of nice loops here https://rhythm-lab.com/breakbeats/?srsl ... rOUBkIAEDE

Post

here is an example of the new slicer. I started with a 4 bar loop of the famous amen break, sliced it up, set up groups that all play a different part, and then got a little something like this.

New Update: EQ Architecture Overhaul

The EQ section has been upgraded from simple high and lowpass filters to a tailored 5-band design:

Sub: Pultec-style behavior (Boost 60Hz / Cut 100Hz).

Thump: 120Hz Boost/Cut.

Clean: 400Hz (great for removing "cardboard" boxiness).

Crack: 3kHz Boost/Cut.

Air: 10kHz Shelf + Exciter (saturation >7kHz).

This fully supports Parameter Locks, allowing for per-step EQ changes that would be difficult to replicate via standard DAW automation. LFO modulation for these parameters is currently in development.

I decided BeatForge needed to be more like hardware , so I built a deep, bi-directional integration for MIDI controllers.

The "Context Aware" Stuff: The Step, Mute, and Solo buttons automatically target your active track. Click a track, and your hardware instantly updates to control it.

The Pretty Lights: It’s not a real instrument if it doesn't blink.

Playback Sync: The steps flash bright yellow with the beat.

Smart Colors: The LEDs change color based on whether a step has probability or parameter locks. It’s like a Christmas tree, but functional.

The Rest: Right-click -> Learn works on everything else. except the LFOs. Don't look at the LFOs. They are being completely rebuilt for the next update so I didn't bother now.

I only could test this with the classic Novation Launch Control xl, but it should work with anyting, midi notes, cc etc..
you can save and call back your midi configuration if you hae multiple controllers.

let me know if you need anything else for your controller and i'l see what i can do.

Enjoy!
