That was great! I’d always thought he was doing those bends with the Strat trem.Bug Music wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 9:58 pm Jeff Beck, channeling Roy Buchanan, covering Stevie Wonder, beautiful !

Or basically anything by Status Quo. I prefer their early less polished sound.

Yeah, you probably mean those behind the nut bends.Uncle E wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 11:04 pm That was great! I’d always thought he was doing those bends with the Strat trem.
They're a cool feature/flaw of the Tele's straight headstock design.
They can sound pretty amazing on a harmonic note, like Jeff is doing there.

I've always thought of the Tele excelling in funky stuff.

Starship trouper, Steve Howe walkthrough with his guitars by another guys channel
"you can do anything with a tele, but it takes a man to do it" kind of approach.
Steve Howe was reason I had an urge for a hollow body, and on a live album House Of Yes I saw he used a Tele on this song maybe that was the reason I got a Shawbucker Tele that he used humbucker in neck on his Tele.
Here is the live concert, Homeworld with tele
Awaken pt 2 also same concert, also tele
Have your passports ready, you are taken for a journey.....

Was unaware of the guy before this. Thanks for that E.
Keep on thinking about what JL states about matching guitars necks and pups.
Yep tele's can sure vary a lot between them. Sometimes it's the heavies that make it happen and sometimes it's the lights. My current one is fairly heavy but it sounds right as rain to me. Just wish it had a thinner neck or a narrower width. (not both)

Lately, I've been thinking that the bigger issue is the balance between the pickups. As long as all positions have a consistent character, my ears can get used to it. For me, that means a brighter, medium output neck pickup with a darker, high output bridge pickup, and a middle pickup that's right in between.tapper mike wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 11:17 am Keep on thinking about what JL states about matching guitars necks and pups.

We couldn't be further apart on pup tone. I hate the twisted tele neck pups that are like strats. While I'm not about biting stinging over bright bridge pups I like shimmer/chime on the bridge.
The La Brea pups work all day long for me on my tele

I'm almost certain that John Scofield and Bill Frisell both play Tele-style guitars on this version of "House of the Rising Sun." Sco's in the left channel, Frisell's on the right with tremolo.
It''s a bracing, brilliant take on a classic with great twangy tones.

re: Tele - sold mine last year as I sorta never picked it up, always reaching for my Strat or Parker first. It was fully tweaked-out with Duncan 1/4pounder at the Rutters bridge(https://ruttersguitars.com/rutters-bridge), Fender "vintage" noiseless at the neck, custom wiring harness & locking tuners. Sounded fantastic but could not bond with it as a daily driver. It was beautiful and very similar to my first electric guitar(also white w/maple board) circa 1975. Just decorative eye-candy in the living room for a couple of years until a local jazz-teacher guy who seemed happy with my sell price in the end.
