Several years back when they had the buy one get 40 free or whatever "group buy" sale I got everything IK had that I was remotely interested in on the cheap

Currently I have none of it installed on anything as it's just not that good

OP, you bought MODO BASS 2 SE which is the version with less basses and is advertised in that specific sale. However, MODO BASS 2 is 49.99 on promotion (has been for a bit, that one got extended), the upgrade version included. If you'd like to refund your $30 MODO BASS 2 SE and pick up the 49.99 MODO BASS 2 that shouldn't be too hard for the team to take care of. Shoot me a PM with your ticket number and if you would like to do that, I'll have our Support Manager take a look and have someone take care.

I think this is their business model, for whatever reason it makes sense to them.

Some people want to avoid iLok, so UAD and Softube wouldn’t be options for them.
It depends on how you look at it. I mentioned that Amplitube 5 Max is "the best," but I don't think it's the best guitar gear emulation. There are many that are equally good, and some of the models have issues, but in some other sense lacking. Guitar Rig has a better interface, lacks the accuracy of emulation. The NeuralDSP stuff is very high quality in emulation, but each plugin is a walled garden and you are stuck with what comes with it, unless you start using other plugins. Bias X looked really promising, but too much aliasing. I could go on, and trust me, I'd love to jump ship, but I've yet to find one that does everything that Amplitube does, at the same quality, but I couldn't find it. Is it buggy? Yeah, but no deal breakers. So that's that. Oh, and I bought it off someone for $75.

Anyway, the rest of what they offer... sure, there are plenty of other options, maybe some better. But better values? Not if you buy them during a sale or group buy. You just have to realize that you get the bargain on the front end, and not again when you upgrade.

Well, it simply depends on what you like.
Generally not a fan of IKM, too, but they always had some nice plugins for guitar, but today there are other alternatives and options.
Never understood the hype of IKM Tape machine plugins, they are good? Really?
I would never use Softube, their plugins don't serve my mixes at all. Everyone has his own plugins and devs he prefers and sometimes it changes. Today I use a lot of plugins I didn't use some months ago.
I have noticed that there are some big devs with a huge plugin choice and I use only one of their plugins:
Sonnox
Plugin Alliance
IKM Multimedia
Arturia
U-he

There is what appears to be inconsistent upgrade paths. The official IKM site: "IK’s New Upgrade Policy" explains "Here's How it Works":

"Let’s say you purchased TONEX SE. That makes you eligible for upgrade pricing on TONEX Full or MAX."

This example appears to indicate that if you own a (something plugin) SE you can upgrade to a Full or MAX of that same plugin at discount pricing.

However, note that the site also says:
When you log in to your IK user account, our system will determine your eligibility and automatically display any upgrade pricing you qualify for in the IK online store
The above is a qualifier that seems to mean that the SE example they provide on the same page may not always have a discount upgrade.

MODO BASS 2 SE is for sale at IKM. Usually $99, and on sale now for $30 (the NAMM Slam sale). Since this is a SE product, it appears it should be eligible just as the TONEX SE example on the "Here's How it Works" page. If it's not, it's confusing if not misleading.

But you can never know for certain unless you check with support first, or already have a product registered in your account. Once you have a registered product IKM will always "determine your eligibility" for any upgrade/pricing/discount.

thanks Peter, I had already lodged a ticket to Sales/Other asking for that very thing! But I do not recall getting an actual ticket number. I did get a message saying I would receive an email in the next few days though.

I was able to get several cool products when I upgraded to TSMAX 3.5.
It was well worth it for me, but maybe not for everyone.

I love the T-Racks plugins and have owned them since they came on a physical install CD a couple of decades ago. SampleTank 4 can be quirky but fun to call up once in awhile. MODO Bass and Drums are nice. I don't have Syntronik installed any longer more out of a concern for drive space than a disdain for the plugin. MixBox is fun and so on....

So yeah, I like quite a bit of their software. Does the way they conduct business annoy me at times? Also yes but not enough to put them on my "no buy from" list.
