I haven't had a chance to test these yet, I only found out about them earlier today... There are a few free plugins at the moment; a multi-comp with a bunch of classic models, an EQ, and a tape-sim with a few models and several tape types.
There is also a list of some more plugins that are in development and also seem like they will be free. 'Linux first', but they also build for Mac and Windows. Nice tidy UI, hopefully the DSP is there too.
Also, very happy to hear the news about Ultra !

I am happy to announce 3 new Plugins from Rick from modularsamples.com
(or https://github.com/publicsamples)
Known for creative and weird Plugins like "Quetzlcoatl", "Oi, Grandad" and some other Plugins.
SOME ARE NOT for Linux but "Quetzlcoatl" and "Oi, Grandad" is.
What i read:
1. Smut - "A dual everything synth with a focus on audio rate modulation (FM, AM etc). Linux is planned."
2. "Unreleased FX Plugin. It's focused on distortion and wave-shaping. The audio routing here is completely modular so it can get pretty crazy." (Linux Support unknown yet)
3. "Grandad Jr. It's an FX plugin with a granular module (FAUST) and two multi-stage delays. Currently there is no public release, but that should change in the next few days." (Linux unknown yet)
I'll update when I have more info.

I tried going Linux in the last 2 weeks and although it didn't work out for me, I'm glad I learned about Auburn Selene, which I think is a very lovely reverb:

Pulsar Modular also starting their first Linux builds, hopefully with later added VST versions.

Going Linux is not something that takes weeks. It took several months for me, fine-tuning the various pieces (Wine/Yabridge, etc.), and streamlining the plugin set to have something comprehensive and robust at the same time.bjm4tt wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 2:13 am I tried going Linux in the last 2 weeks and although it didn't work out for me, I'm glad I learned about Auburn Selene, which I think is a very lovely reverb:

But, at least for the moment, it's quite a refreshing experience.

Yeah, thanks for the encouragement, I'm quite stubborn and still trying to make it work.mabian wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 3:30 pm Going Linux is not something that takes weeks.

Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but Bitwig is designed for live use. Reaper is also designed so that it can be configured for live performance as well (It's VERY flexible). You may want to look into the possibilities.keys_au1 wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 5:48 pm Linux REALLY needs VST hosting apps like Gig Performer, Cantabile, Camelot Pro et al. The current Catia and Carla are simply no comparison.

This is a bit misleading. Most DAWs can be used live but that doesn’t put them in the same category as Cantabile, Camelot Pro or Gig Performer.
Dedicated hosts are live performance systems by design and are built around setlists and song states, instant, glitch-free preset switching, rack states and global routing, MIDI program changes and foot controllers, minimal overhead and maximum stability.
No timeline, no transport, no project logic, just real-time performance.
Linux genuinely lacks a true professional-grade live host equivalent.

Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would argue that the modularity of Reaper, coupled with specially designed extensions can do all of those things just as well. Just because it's a DAW doesn't mean that it can't do those things just as well through............ extensions!enCiphered wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 8:05 pm This is a bit misleading. Most people have heard of extensions, but have never really ever seen or used one, let alone several.
Reaper with Realive, Playtime 2, ReaSetlistManager, Realearn, etc. etc. does all of that. The best part is the glitch-free preset switching, rack states through Containers and parallel routing just like you mentioned. Reaper is a midi monster too! Multi-session capability, etc., etc., etc.
Here are just some of the extensions available:
https://www.realive.fm/
https://www.helgoboss.org/projects/playtime#intro
https://www.reddit.com/r/Reaper/comment ... pensource/
In addition, the Kushview Element plugin host gives further modular power to this setup and runs as a plugin inside Reaper.
https://kushview.net/element/
Reaper is truly more powerful than most people have ever been aware of..........most people don't even know that there are extensions for Reaper.
There's even an entire Forum dedicated to the live use of Reaper:
