All these threads about how Reason is shit are hilarious, it never brings anything but people keep spending hours to complain, for you complaining thousands are happy and making music every day with Reason, like me
May be a "psy" section on KVR with a therapist providing advise could help...

It's not that Reason sucks, can't you read? People love Reason.carambo wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 6:16 pm All these threads about how Reason is shit are hilarious, it never brings anything but people keep spending hours to complain, for you complaining thousands are happy and making music every day with Reason, like meMay be a "psy" section on KVR with a therapist providing advise could help...
It's that important workflow and QOL features are missing since ages. Because they don't listen to their customers, the people get upset and RS got into financial trouble.

Reason needs a complete, and I mean complete reworking of the GUI to modern standards, or nobody...pretty sure nobody, and alot of software buyers are gonna be young folks...nobody will buy it, or be interested in it.
They will look else ware...just from the look of it !!! But it is awesome, it needs some modern attention!

MuLab is looking very good, but MuLab is not "photorealistic" GUI stuff, just solid GUI, nice and clear.

Disagree. Reason will become more popular simply because it does look more vintage. People love retro, even if they weren't there to experience it firsthand. Why do you think Behringer is now releasing cheap knockoffs of old "vintage" synthesizers? Why is synthwave popular? Why are the most popular TV shows and movies re-makes of stuff that was done 20-40 years ago?
People love retro.

Oh good - please no! Absolutely not! Reason's GUI was perfect, albeit they worsened it in several regards with the V13 update. But even now it's still the best looking and overall most functional DAW of all in my opinion. The interface (including all specific functionality such as Blocks) is the best thing about Reason. It's just soo clean, pretty, neat, tidy and functional!Grizzellda wrote: Fri Feb 06, 2026 7:43 am Reason needs a complete, and I mean complete reworking of the GUI to modern standards, or nobody...pretty sure nobody, and alot of software buyers are gonna be young folks...nobody will buy it, or be interested in it.
If you don't like it I think you're way better off by simply using one of the countless of other DAWs instead - it's probably just not for you. But don't make the mistake of speaking for others - you can't!

I don't think it looks vintage at all. But it's a distinctive look for sure as it isn't photorealistic but instead has kind of a comic-style pseudo-realistic design. Years ago I talked to my wife about it (wondering why people would prefer something - comparatively - fugly such as Cubase over it) and my wife (one of her degrees is a master in applied arts) explained to me that Reason has a far more feminine* design that those others, which also goes to explain why it's always been so popular with female producers.waxtrax wrote: Fri Feb 06, 2026 11:47 am Reason will become more popular simply because it does look more vintage. And I will also gladly take its design over any of the countless macho-style DAWs
any day of the week!
*considering that Sweden is amongst the most emancipated countries in the world this makes sense.
(Too bad Flying Haggis never made it over to 64bit despite Dave's promises. It would make for a match made in heaven with Reason.)

Reason has a nice look, which is one of it's stronger points over other daws. But I think it's usability ranges from good to not so good. The rack is mostly good, and I prefer it over dealing with floating plugin gui's. And the rack cables are fun, with making initial connections being easy enough. But it gets unwieldy pretty quick. Each track should probably have it's own rack for keeping devices and cables clutter under control, with patch points between track racks. For a highly MIDI driven application, it should really have some MIDI processing utilities, such as a well done velocity curve tool. MIDI utilties could include bits for supporting e-drums, such as a mapping utility and a CC utility that could be used for dialing in hi-hat control (among other things). The mixer looks nice, but it's trying too hard to be hardware, missing software mixer workflow features, and just being really big. Reason isn't efficient in use of screen space in general. It could really use more key commands with key customization and templates for tracks and projects, which could help in making the UI more efficient. The sequencer could really use markers for getting around in projects. It could really use something like a grown up ID8 for songwriters, with some nice sounding and playing drums, bass, piano, e-piano, etc., with good adjustability. Propellerhead did good quality refills in the past that probably already cover most of that. The modeled Radical stuff isn't a proper substitute.

I never thought of the design in terms of gender but that really makes some sense to me. I often like "feminine" things - many of my favorite authors are women (think Shirley Jackson not Jane Austen!), my closest friends have usually been women...jens wrote: Fri Feb 06, 2026 1:25 pmI don't think it looks vintage at all. Reason feels much more inviting than, say, Live which is just comparatively Brutalist.

They are getting a little "long in the tooth" though, right?
I think I am wondering where it is going, as a program...an application.
And what will it look like ten years from now?
