Is it legal to use Zebralette instead? As much as I know it uses the same principle of sound creation (on the oscillator level). It's obviously a very "skinny" version of Zebra, but it's very simple and straightforward. It's also works fine on my old system.

Zebralette 3 is basically a subset of Zebra 3, and it's patches can even be imported to Zebra 3 (though they lose the fx chain) so it should be fine. Please state with your submission details which you have used.

Note: earlier versions of Zebra or Zebralette are a different synth, thus not acceptable for this challenge.

Final Beta version now available:

Yes, I highly recommend checking it out. Make a copy of your Favourites though, if you need them for the challenge.

The beta from today has 1200+ presets, we have added quite a few more very usable and playable ones over the previous version (which had about 800 presets).

(The OSC is why we released this version as a beta rather than a Release Candidate, so it still can be used for free throughout the duration of the challenge)

I started going in a certain "spacey" direction at first, but then I found it was tough to write that way. It turned out the presets I used had a bit too much going on. Now I am trying to make a new, faster paced track that is using simpler presets. So now there won't be overlap of complex patches and whatnot, but still "catchy" (hopefully). 8)

I would create my own presets, but I don't have much time for this one.

First submission ever! This is kind of a test. I hope to get some ideas in what areas my song is lacking, or maybe some glazing:

https://soundcloud.com/jonathan-jonatha ... er-version

- I have 25 instances of Zebra 3!
- I used FL studio
Generally I tried to use as few other plugins as possible, even for mixing (which means this song has been mixed, in general, in Zebra 3 itself (with the EQ effect, etc) - However, I used a few stock plugins.

- plugins used: Fruity Parametric EQ 2, Fruity Compressor, Fruity Reeverb, fruity Convolver, Fruity Limiter, Fruity Delay 3.
Most of these plugins have only one or two instances, except for Fruity Parametric EQ 2, which was used on all of the instances of Zebra 3 (because I used the EQ for gain-purposes instead of their primary function). In addition, most of the stock plugin instances are used to very little effect. With this, I would not call my song mixed.

- I would say I am slightly happy with the result. This challenge was really a challenge for me since I generally use an extremely similar setup of plugins for each song. Making this song was like making music for the first time again slightly. Not using my usual mixing plugins was probably the hardest part for me.

A new "final final" beta has landed, again still with support for the Beta Tester license card:

This one has a lot snapper preset browsing and some fixes in the preset library. Might come in handy for you guys.

Thanks Urs - as you must have so much going on we appreciate that you are still thinking of OSC!

My self-coded plugin collection is growing. I now use 4 of my own-code plugins which are hosted on github The Bark compressor one is interesting ... it uses one of four selectable ISO 226 equal-loudness contours as thresholds for the compression, that means it takes some psycho acoustic into consideration. And after fiddling a little (aka a lot) with ifft challenges, the result was quite good for my ears at least.

My plugins are accompanied by my usual arsenal, Bitwig, Melda, always the same boring stuff.

22 Instances of Zebra. Only one has been started from a factory patch. All others are from init. I did not nerd out on the Requires-PhD parts of the synth. I stayed pretty solid and simple or in case of the FM Osc I twisted knobs like a monkey until I got sth. - at least I would say - useful. Nice synth, but I don't have enough mental capacity to learn it ... I rather spend time improving my plugins.

My entry is almost done, I just wondered if anyone wants to share a crash cymbal preset? I don’t have much time, (already spent many days on this one) and the few cymbal type presets in there don’t seem to fit.

Here are 3 - not sure whether I would consider them brilliant, but crash-ish

Here's my OSC Zebra3 entry I call "Trek". I used 16 instances of Zebra3, Sonar for the DAW, the DAW's EQ and automation, and DAW's delay, compressor, and limiter plugins. Other freebie plugins used were MCharmVerb, and Wave Breaker.
