I was pleasantly surprised with the trial version: when restarting a fairly simple project, I was astonished to find everything still in memory even though I hadn't saved anything!

I watched a couple vids on this and it seems interesting, although I don't know if I "missed" that workflow that much. Is it audio input only, or can you record a soft synth? it would be cool if you could stripe a channel with SMPTE like I don't miss doing and use it to run an external sequencer, lol

Back in '97 I saved for something I'd been dreaming of, for a decade: an 8 track digital recorder which even let you get MORE tracks if you bounced some! Two months later I discovered CoolEdit and have not used the 8 track since. I have 0 nostalgia for that workflow.

Once they have the windows version running a bit more stable I’ll do some content.

But the basics of it works pretty well.

In the vid I saw midi input. Chain that with a VST instrument (pre or post tape) and it might work.

Does it do track bouncing?

Yes

I know I saw this vid of a legendary music producer and he swore the secret to that rich, analog sound was from recording on reel to reel. I've never mixed like this, so I'm assuming you get a live preview to adjust things like reverb and volumes, right? Because the way they make it sound is like one take, that's it. Don't like it, have to re-record. I bet someone will do the next 'Bleach' on this thing.

Yes
To clarify, I mean between recorded tracks and free tracks, not final export/bounces.

I like this one better but I can't read the GUI. I wonder if there are different skins for it.

The product-page clearly says that it's audio only but it supports virtual instruments in that you can record their output (as audio).

That makes sense. No midi editor, yay!

I saw something yesterday that claims the next version will have Midi learn and I was wondering about this and how this works in this kind of mixer. When you have a real mixing board you always see the engineers adjusting things in real time, so is this how this works? You record your stuff, put it on tracks, then bounce the consolidated audio in real time, making whatever adjustments you need? I guess the midi learn will take care of filter sweeps and things, no?
