If the prospective Nonlinear Labs C25 isn't exciting I don't know what is. If they were to make a plugin version of that engine (I have no reason to believe they will)... yeah many ways to end that sentence haha.

It's a fatar keyboard with some MPE controls, while certainly nice it's not really all that exciting and most certainly not innovativeAndreya_Autumn wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 8:41 pm If the prospective Nonlinear Labs C25 isn't exciting I don't know what is. And that is controlling what is essentially plugins in a box that do phase-modulation/FM, waveshaping, physical modelling, and subtractive synthesis. Whole cool everything it does is already readily available in plugin land and has been forever, again not very exciting or innovative
It's designed for gigging musicians who can play keys live and utilize MPE in the process who want to think they are cool because they don't use a laptop and plugins with MainStage or Gig Performer like their contemporaries have done for years now

I mean yeah, if you break it down to a list of features it doesn't *seem* so far out. But every time I've heard one played I've been like... damn that sounds good.

Too many musicians ask for analog reissues, plugins that are just emulations also keep selling well.
There is very few demand for innovation, and think there are also a lot of products now with lots of features that only very few people end using.

I was there and thought it was awesome. Had so much fun! But I also don't think of it as an experience that hinges on whether or not there is "OMGZ NEW MIND BLOWING TECH THAT WILL BLOW YOUR FUKCING MIND!"

Absolutely it sounds good, but lots of things that have the same kinds of sound engines also sound goodAndreya_Autumn wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 9:18 pm I mean yeah, if you break it down to a list of features it doesn't *seem* so far out. As usual, U-he attend:billinder33 wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 10:55 am I know it's mostly a hardware-driven event, but was expecting to see at least one or two exciting things pop up here or in the Effects forum, but so far it's been nothing but crickets.
Is there no buzz at all this year? Is the era of innovation in music tech over?

Anybody who wasn’t there cannot get it!
I had mind blowing conversations with hardware and software inventors. The whole atmosphere is a total mind shift compared to other fairs. A feeling of respect and support of normally competing vendors. The small companies get much more focus than the big players. A lot of what was exhibited had been announced in advance (Zebra 3 for example), which helps visitors to plan their visit, as its hard to get in touch with everything you are interested in.
Some innovations are simply not announced in a flashy way you would expect from an advertising perspective.
I found PitchGrid (released before as well) interesting. He built as well a microtonal experimental synth which appears only on his github page. Innovation might not be a mass market phenomenon…
And you can meet people in person including Mr. Schneider who invented this wonderful format…

I should have added YMMV. Thread title is "Nothing exciting from Superbooth?"IvyBirds wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 5:59 pmOP starts a thread about the lack of innovation on display at Super Booth
Gets excitement over a reissue that is a strictly limited edition run of a synth from over 40 years ago as an example of innovation
New/old, innovative or not, OSCar is the only thing I found exciting. YMMV.
IMO, innovation is overrated.

I find most synth news these days to be Boring.
It is usually a new limited synth with the same sounds and features that has been around for ages.
I knew that Korg would show a new Synth at the superbooth but they managed to make it akward and weird instead of showing what it is and I believe it will be a very expensive synth since they try to make people curious and trigger the I want reflexes with that stupid strategy.
I am very happy with the Hardware and Vst setup i have now so It must be a extraordinary release to make me lift my eyebrows these days.
