It’s almost always the vintage Danelectro/Coral electric sitars on those old ‘60s tunes. They weren’t designed for real sitar players, they were designed for hippies to trip out on.

Nuthin wrong with that. LOL

I used to be obsessed by this sound. There was a second hand Coral in a cash converter near me but I dithered so long (it wasn't exactly cheap, unsure about condition) someone else snapped it up. I got hold of an EHX Ravish Sitar pedal eventually, but to me that sounded more like a real sitar than those electric sitars...the search goes on. I may look into that Shreddage instrument, but being (ostensibly) a guitarist I've always avoided virtual guitars...might have to make an exception 😉

If any of you are looking for a Sitar VST, there's Syntar which actually sounds pretty decent. It's free but as it's an older plugin, it's 32 bits only. https://plugins4free.com/plugin/295/

Agree. A rhodes sounds even less like a real piano, but ... it still kinda has it's uses. ;)

Actually, it is. Sitar and guitar are both fretted lutes. Same family.

The bend is a big part of it. On a sitar, the frets are not flush with the neck.

You can kind of simulate this on a guitar, but not totally. That’s why I use a Roli Rise and an Equator patch. I feel like you can get the vibe better, though I guess you miss out on the whole sympathetic string thing because you are using samples and synthesis. I wonder if you could put a chromatically tuned resonator after it and recapture some of that.

I had a Dan-O U2 converted with a Gotoh Buzz Bridge. I also had a Rogue copy of the Dan-O Coral. I agree, the sympatheic strings are a real PITA to tune. I've currently got a Silvertone 1303 which is very similar to the U2. I'm looking for another Gotoh Buzz Bridge to convert it. I've also got an EHX Ravish pedal.....never used it WITH an electric sitar. Might sound cool....but might be overkill. Hope to find out!! :D
