So it beats 'free' !
But it has a 30-day trial time limit.

Chickensys Translator has a free version: I didn't bother downloading it as I couldn't find any info about limitations of the free version.

That sucks. I have also asked at their forum at Northernsoundsorce without any luck.

Anyone happens to have this one?

For people who don't mind getting a little dirty, this means that you can now edit your samples in the free SFZ format and then convert! All you need is a text editor, and if you're doing loop points, an audio editor that will let you zero in numerically on which sample bit your loops points are at.

I've used sfz for drums, and it's quick and easy for basic features. Might take a bit more stamina to use the advanced features, but if you can even understand what they are, it'll probably be not so intimidating.

I'm an Extreme Sample Converter fan myself -- great program, and they're expanding it significantly to allow more sophisticated soundfont parameter editing.
So what is the cheapest way to make a SF2 from a selection of wav files, preferably with the option of keymapping, velicity mapping etc. If there is a free way to do this then I think ESC could still be the best all rounder for me.
If you're nerd enough to run "cmd" under windows (or appleScript, for Mac fans) you can try my little tools that I made to simplify the process of building a big velocity-layered soundfont, starting with a set of Wave files (one for each velocity layer). Skipping the first step, if the sample files are named appropriately, you can use the second two steps that somewhat automagically build a keyboard/velocity map and assemble an SF2 file.

These are batch-conversion style tools, no GUI. You use some file naming conventions and a text control file to assemble a single preset sf2 file.

If I had known about sfz format when I wrote them, I probably would have used that!

Anyway, if you're interested, find out more at Learjeff.com/sf/jSfTools. I used these tools to build my jRhodes3 soundfont, which you can also find there.
