I don't think it would be bending the rules.. as it would be a serious entry into the charts...
... We would be selling songs.. and could use it as a way to promote "independent" Non commercial music 
...
I'm not suggesting we do this in a... "enter a crap song" way... I'm suggesting we enter the best we can do... I reckon there is enough combined talent hear to produce music that is as good anything else in the charts...
But yeah.. if the numbers are hundreds of thousands then we might struggle getting that amount of downloads... but that could be part of the challenge ... Perhaps if people have any contacts in radio land/ TV world, though... I think the song would have to have some kinda "novelty/ Controvesy" angle to it to help promote a hype...
Perhaps I'm being over optomistic...
