But I still can't wrap my head around it for making a whole song from scratch.
but keep in mind that this is just an opinion. ;-)

Just out of curiosity, which sequencer do you find easier than eXT?

I used to use Sonar 4, but it was hard to use and especially sluggish, so eXT was a breath of fresh air in comparison. I'm not that familiar with Tracktion, but I've tried it and the MIDI editing seems quite weak (this seems to be common complaint on the Tracktion forum).

IMHO what makes eXT still unsuitable for complete production sequencing tasks from scratch, that is, complete songs that involve audio, is the lack of certain very basic features (which are rapidly being added as we speak!), like resizing borders on audio clips (still missing on left border), a proper take manager or some way to quickly organize recorded audio, a proper sequencer dependant mixer where you can rename mixer tracks and where you can add inserts, busses etc. I know all this is available outside the sequencer and that you can route it out there but having everything integrated into the sequencer is the whole point that makes eXT less desireable as a SEQUENCER, where you do a FULL MIX, than other software.

Then again, I'd be willing to bet that in x-mas 2005 I will be using eXT as my main sequencer for everything and it'll blow everything else out of the waters!

Swivel: Easier Sequencer for full production would be FL studio for me but I'm biased and have used FL studio since it came out in 1997 (or was it 98?) so my opinion doesn't count. :P

EDIT: one more thing I forgot to add. The piano roll in eXT is absolutely K I L L E R!! Definately the best pianoroll anywhere, ever. Period.

just my 2 cents again..

It all depends how much time you have to learn.

At first I didn't think that I would use EXT as stand alone host. After weeks (I'm honnest here :oops) learning and studying documentation I realised the potential of Ext.

My last song I did with Ext only 8)

I purchased the license last weekend, knowing this is the way to go for me.

Unfortunately my head is still thinking Cubase 5.1 but I'll get around it soon; still in the phase of trying to get a sound out of it.

I don't mind though; time is a friend

I use Tracktion. I think a lot of it DOES lie in the fact that I only need very basic MIDI (drums, keyboard plunking and that's about it) functions. I am an audio guy, and right now I don't find that eXT has the sort of instantly hands-on audio tools that I need/want.

HOWEVER, that's not to say I don't love eXT. The beauty of it is that I don't have to use it as a sequencer to be an xt-geek. I'm quite certain that Jorgen doesn't feel betrayed by those of us who still prefer to use it inside our main host. ;)
