Erm... hopefully everyone understands that warez and stolen samples is illegal, my question was about scratching records and using scratches. I'm not quite sure that those can be regarded as samples, as well I'm not quite sure that my point is OK. I was actually asking for some competent answer on an issue which might be of interest for other KvR members and visitors. I was not luring anybody into illegal sampling, using warez, murdering own granny etc.Sepheritoh wrote:It always amazes me how any post about "Is warez legal" get locked before the 3rd reply, but posts about stealing samples or music are allowed to continue.
Scratching--legal?

I understand what you are saying. There is no doubt about the legality though. It has been looked at from every angle and there is more than enough references on the internet about it. With authority I can say that it is illegal.
Btw, I may feel a bit non-objective / subjective / emotional about this issue as I have been ripped off more directly than just innocent scratching.

I've heard some that sounded legal, in that I didn't notice anything glaringly obvious that it was stolen... But then again, I'm no expert, so they might not have been legal. There are some people that tout their scratch records as fully original somewehre, but I don't remember who or where.thehumanPlugin wrote: Actually most scratch records are illegal. They are released by very small labels and they don't clear the samples on them. Most of the "standard" scratch sounds are illegal and have never been cleared - I have a scratch record with "come together" and "iron man"... and you know they are not cleared
Err, did any of that make any sense?
[edit] Tried to make it make a little more sense and fix my atrocious spelling [/edit]

is scratching cooler and more underground when it's spelt with a 'k' instead of a 'c'? does 'skratching' apply to a particular type of music? sounds a bit pretentious to me
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

It should be spelled with a "z" then, too.haydxn wrote:is scratching cooler and more underground when it's spelt with a 'k' instead of a 'c'? does 'skratching' apply to a particular type of music? sounds a bit pretentious to me
