Uh... I still have unfinished stuff lying around from my hi-school days in the mid 80s...
Most of my stuff gets pickled in my brain for weeks and months before I start trying to record it. Very often I start to record something but can't get the feeling I want or whatever, then I close the project and let it pickle some more. It can get rather crowded in my skull that way. When I do hit the ground running it takes me a day to get the basics in, resulting in a somewhat unpolished, halfway finished thing, but with the structure down. Then I pickle&polish for a while before attempting to mix and master.
I'm not too productive that way, I average two tracks per month, one of them usually a very old idea that I finally finish, the result often sounding dated. That said I've made the most on a song that was 15 years in the making...

depends...
creating samples / synth patches, setting up rack devices either in reason or buzz/psycle. maybe a day - or max three...
actual song composing is rather swift in comparism, since i did most of my homework before (rack, routing, choice of sounds). between 1 hour and a day... but most stuff gets finished quite quickly.
if i get bogged down composing/writing a tune too early i scrap the thing, instead of trying to improve a idea that obviously doesn´t fit my way of writing...
it´s quite hard to describe the process ... the more i think about it the more i tend to say it is all about capturing that "flow"-moment. if i manage to get into the mood of the song and the sounds are okay, the tune almost writes itself.

I can usually finish a song, from the time I realise that it could be one, in two or three days. However, I would never consider releasing a song on an album for at least another 12 to 18 months because I know that the longer I spend tweaking it, the better it will get. but in reality they are never finished because they can always be improved upon. e.g. I wrote the last track on our new album in 1990 but I never thought it was worth releasing until I completely overhauled it a few years back. It just misse dou ton the first album because I had enough of that style of song but it works perfectly on the new one.

What's all this: 2 years, 3 months etc.
Just because you started a tune a year ago and didn't work on it til yesterday doesn't mean it took a year you know
I usually spend between 30 and 50 hours. Then my cpu is running at 85% and I have to stop
Well actually it does that the last 15 hours.

Most often I finish a song in one evening (4-10 hours) to the point that I have a rough mix. Then I'll do the final mix next day because otherwise my ears are too tired to know what sounds good and what not.
Sometimes it takes longer than one evening but I've noticed that I'm always happiest with the songs that came together fast and effortlessly. Somehow, when I tweak a track too much, I hear the "effort" there and don't like it...
All in all I consider my working pace really fast since I do quite a lot of programming in addition to the (improvised) "live" parts.

Depends on the piece, the time I have at the moment etc. But to be precise it takes exactly 1 day to 6 months. Exactly!
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

3-4 hours building, then another 2-3 hours the next day tweaking it.
