i've used chainer , xT , and mini-host for
random pre-set generation , but i must say , that dons' combo suggestion of xT , along with mini-hosts' keyboard , makes alot of sense ...

i'll be trying that out ...
thanks for the tip ...

You don't require a license for either eXT or Mini-Host to do the things I have explained, either. And it's nowhere near as complicated as you think it is; just try it out & you'll see.

Either way, good luck!
I have an eXT license. So this is good.

I'm just a dumb guitarist too, Gordon.

Seriously, I've messed with almost every host out there & this is the fastest method I have found with the highest yield of useable results for preset generation without requiring actual programming talents.

I will give a serious try tonight. Thanks again. I am hoping I can finally manage to a new preset out of Albino 2.

Post

Should be pretty easy. Just make sure you keep your eyes on parameters that don't behave well under randomisation like attack. When you are doing random/morph generation, you can have a great preset right there but not know it cause an attack gets set to a level that's too high to ever allow a note to be heard, which is why I prefer to isolate attack, release, & volume from bieng effected.

Doesn't Albino have a randomizer on it? Not that it could be better than what I suggested, but I thought it did..

Post

Look at the bottom left near the volume knob & you'll see a 'gen' button. Click the logo & you'll get thab synth's rear panel where you can determine the amount of random generation from values of 1-100. Then click the gen button to scramble the synth.

The results stink, IMO, but that's a quick & dirty way to do it in any host with Albino2.

My method is way better :D

Good advice. How do you isolate a parameter in eXT though.

Albino 2 does have a randomizer! Cameleon 5000 does. The point is that I want a bit more control than that. The blend feature in eXT looks like it should give me that.

Albino 2 does not have a radomizer AKAIK. Cameleon 5000 does. The pointy is though that I want a bit more control than that. The blend feature in eXT looks like it should give me that.
The gen button I mentioned is Albino2's randomizer.

Look in eXT's preset generator window & to the left you'll see a long column. You'll need to set which parameters you want randomized there. There's a drop down tab at the top that toggles between 'use all' or 'use selected'. Best to turn em all on by clicking on the parameters and exclude the ones I mentioned.

OK that's good, but how do I isolate a parameter to keep it from being morphed?

heh..uh..

Look at that screenshhot I posted of eXT's preset generator window. See that list on the left? That's you r synth's parameters. Clicking on one will toggle between an on & off state for the randomizer.

The parameter lists can become quite long, especially with monsters like Albino, but if you have 'Use all' selected, you'll only need to click on a parameter to disable it's randomization.

OK this is all conceptual until I get in front of my DAW tonight. I understand it to the point of knowing visually which state is off and which toggle state is on? Sorry if this a moronic question?

Post

No sweat, Gordon. It's nice helping someone else out for once :hihi:

Ok, look at this screenshot:

When you are in the 'Use all'state, you will randomize all parameters EXCEPT what you have selected like I do here with volume. The 'Use selected' is the inverse of this method. I don't recommend using the 'use selected' setting unless you have a very specific component of the synth you wish to randomize & know it's exact function & parameter titles.

That help?

Perfectly I am very psyched to give it a go.

Thanks so much Sickle!
Gordon

Hey Sickle. I had few minutes to try it out last night with DDSP's Phantom and with Sytrus VST - these being impossible synths for me to program- I actually was able to pull off an interesting preset with Phantom!

Sytrus not so easy and will take more time.

Tobybear's Minihost is a nice but I still do not see the advantage of MiniHost it over eXT SA with my keyboard or using a sequencer like Fruity, Live or Sonar to do duty looping a chord or arp. With MH I still need to hold key down - there appears to be no way to trigger continuous looping.

Best,
Gordon

Turn on the mini-sequencer in the midi tools window.
