Cabinfever wrote:read ni's absynth forum - ab3 has lots of bugs, is much heavier on the cpu and the new sounds are dull. not worth the price imho. i'm waiting a while --- maybe another six months or so until the next $129 upgrade
It has less bugs than v2 did when v2 was first release-trust me on that.NI's aware of the bugs(most of them being graphics)-they acknowlege this point in the readme(which most people tend to ignore  ).The CPU hit is from the patches using the new features-they're aware that some optimizing needs to be done.
If it's not worth the price to you-fine.Just don't kick yourself later

so ni decided to release a product it knew was full of bugs, but because they mention them in the readme that makes it all ok ?

picture the scene in ni...

marketing man: "release 3 still has a whole lot of serious bugs, what'll we do ?"

accountant: "we've committed to releasing it. it's in our komplete pack so its gotta ship."

marketing man: "i know, lets just put a readme file in there saying that we know all about the bugs"

accountant: "brilliant ! that'll make people think we give a shit about their problems and make us look thorough."

marketing man: "and we can fix all the bugs whenever we happen to get around to it."

accountant: "he he he, you mean fix them for version 4 and charge the dumb synth addicts another $129  "

marketing man: "done ! now where are we going for lunch ?"

It's not quite like that,Cabinfever(even though I see your point)...
Yes,they knew there were some unresolved bugs in it when it was released. That's not any different than 80% of the software released these days.
The only one I've run into that's a potential show stopper is the no srollbars on the new envelope window,so if you have the channels maxed out with envelpes, you have to delete some to do master envelopes. You can reinsert the channel ones after that though,so all's not lost.
I'll state once again-3's initial release is much more bug free than 2's was(not that it justifies anything)

Hey man, it's customary for all NI apps to be released in the raw..why act surprised?

Battery 2 was released without even having output config options..

:hihi:

Big Deal. All NI products still kick the brains out of everything else, so I could care less what needs to be fixed in v1.05..Reaktor 4 was launched with a misery of bugs & non-optimized code..2 months later that was almost completely forgotten as the opiates were flowing unobstructed due to swift updates..

:?

Everyone's gotta take a shot at the guys on top..

Losers.

You guys act like it's the actual coders who have any say about if & when a pruduct launches..Those guys probably bust their ASSES getting these things as close to perfect for an unrealistic launch date as possible, so how about a little respect, eh?

Add the testers to that, and I couldn't have said it any better myself :!:

HI

I loaded up battery V2 in SX the other day - it took me several hours to scroll down through the frigin outputs that it threw up!

Flipper.

Post

Have you installed the 2.1 update, flipper? That's supposed to address that problem(or so I've heard-I haven't updated my Battery 1 yet...)

I'm not that bothered by the bugs in A3. It's pretty stable for a first release, actually.

I am a little underwhelmed by the new features so far though.

I can't speak for you, but Absynth has never been the most intuitive programming enviornment for me, so maybe there's more under the hood you are yet to discover..

Another deep breath, hold your nose & plunge downwards..or inwards..or inside-outwards..

That's certainly possible. My disappointment so far is just a first impression.

I just got Absynth 3 and I think it sounds better than Absynth 2.AS 3 has wider stereo image than AS2 and AS 3 can produce surround sound which is very useful for sound designers. It has also some new features and new graphics. But most importantly you can still hear that it's Absynth(I think the sound that AS produces is something very unique)

is much heavier on the cpu
Well that was one reason more for not buying it, another: Agreeing with Sicklecell666 "empty pockets". But when thinking of the synths I have which I would like to use some more but can`t because they drain the cpu like vampires, I would urge Vst manufactures to make efficientcy a much bigger issue on their schedule than it is now. By the way can not recall the bugs in Absynth 2, regarding the gui I like that very much in 2, why have they changed it  It is one of my most used synths, with the way of handling the presets as one of the finest around.

It's only some of the patches using the new features that are CPU intensive.Otherwise,it's the same as A2.
