I took my AXIS-1 to a smash repairer [body shop] and had it professionally repainted after I completely f**ked it up twice. Cost me $100 but it was worth every penny. My advice is do not use spray paint - I thought I was reasonably competant but it just kept craking on me every time I tried a second coat, whether I waited 10 minutes, or two hours or a week between coats. It was diabolical and I have never had that problem before or since .

Nah...f**k the legends. I'll take a picture for reference. Thanks for the advice.I just have one question. What about all the control legends? Are you wanting to maintain those, or simply paint over them and forget about them? Maintaining all the legends could get tricky
I won't be spray painting it, either. I'll take the case to an auto body shop.

There are special spray paints in a can now for plastic. As was mentioned, the computer mod people are doing this. I got an old, cheap keyboard on eBay that arrived looking more beat than the low rez pictures revealed. I've got it working great, but I was thinking of painting it some odd color just to keep people guessing what it might be. In my plans I'll paint over all the legending and then crudely hand letter some of them back on with a permanent marker.

What?
Oh, okay. They probably have a fancier spray gun than you have. (They hopefully won't be using a can of Wal-Mart's best aerosol paint.) Still, it is almost certainly going to be sprayed on, just with better equipment and materials.
If that case is aluminum, you might also have the option to anodize it. Powder coating is another option with a metal case. Both types of finishes are much more durable than mere paint. (I bet the Yamaha is plastic, isn't it?) An anodized case would have looked very cool.
Note: Both my father and my brother are professional auto body repairmen and painters. I know a little about the subject. (I know enough to let them paint something for me.)
take care,
