As an afterthought...obviously you're interested in older analogue synths. If you see a cheap Juno106 - avoid it like the plague. Korgs seem to be OK, and even other Rolands, but 106s are starting to die. The DCOs are going and it's getting very difficult to replace them. I suspect they'll start appearing at knock down prices soon because of that...so don't be tempted to buy one. Alphas, older Junos, and other all analogue Rolands seem to be sturdier though.

In fact Korgs had a good name for reliability...you still see many being used and abused without any problems - and you'll always be able to sell it on at no loss if you don't like it. It'll be cheap more likely because it's not a spectacular synth rather than because it's dodgy

I had several over the years. Because they were cheap, NOT because they were good. They have a very limited range and they sound pretty weak most of the time. Apparantly the VSTi does a good job of recreating the factory presets so you could check out the demo and decide for yourself.

Invader 2, Flow Motion, Olga, TRK 01, Thorn, Spire, VG Iron

The other thing to note is that the Poly 800 only has one filter. There are eight or four voices (depending on whether each sound is dual oscillator) but they all go to one filter. You won't notice this if you use it as a monphonic sound but it can be very annoying polyphonically.

Strap lugs.

2 more words:

Reverse keys.

Other than that, it's just a synth.

Heya Steve...glad you could make it...

I bought a korg polysix that had the dreaded leaking battery problem , total nightmare, the guy ended up giving me his korg poly61, I lost a little on the deal but I like the poly61 it has a arpeggiator wich is fun for jamming and it has a raspy hard tome that I like, I'm keeping my eye out for a roland jx-8p and selling my yamaha dx7

I purchased a Roland Juno 106 myslf and it is a nice sounding beast. He's right in that one of the circuits commonly burns out after a while (certainly an unrefurbished model may be toast) cutting out the polyphony, but there are still a few places to get the parts. Hard to get though. Luckily mine had been cleaned and fixed.
You'd need to make sure it was in good nick before buying.

Well if the Synapse stuff is a decent emulation, than it indeed has a kind of soft sound, and sometimes cheesee as well. But I did manage to sqeeze out a few decent basses (with few effects and a compressor), and some nice pads
I was mostly interested in getting a decent but cheep synth that I can use as a Midi Controller as well, but reading that its not quit usable as a Midi Controller I should probably be looking for something else.

There are two extra free banks for it here:

Thanx, i'll try them, and your other banks as well, there are some of my favorite syths in there, like impOSCar, or Triangle II
