that bothered me with tls before. this w1 sounds cool and uses near-0 cpu.

Hello!
"just spotted" your discussion.... (with a help of griels)
I wasn't aware of TLS - downloaded and tested it. Sounds like a distort box to me.
TLS seems to work ideally on single sine waves, but once you have at least _TWO_ sine waves (what to say about more complex signals), it starts to do it in the wrong way.
I guess, it might result out of an improper use of a known analytic signal processing techniques.
Here's a two-sine test that screws TLS maximizer:

P.S. the topic - I wouldn't call it "Waves L1 freeware", the Waves guys might get pissed off...
Though probably as long as you don't add 'Ultramaximizer', you are not infringing any trademarks.
Thanks,
George.

Gyohng, I have no idea how you arrived at that result with TLS - are you saying that you just ran 2 overlapping sine waves through it? What settings did you use?

I think your signal path is at fault somehome. Your output is clipping and producing distortion and you introduce TLS and the distortion remains? What are you talking about?verstaerker wrote:i know but it doesn't sound good - go and try itchagzuki wrote:I think you're a bit confused here. TLS doesn't let peaks through.
What do you mean, one is a maximizer and the other a limiter? What exactly is a 'maximizer' other than another name for a limiter?

Poor. It is indeed close to L1, which is incredibly dated now.jtxx000 wrote:So how does this limiter sound in comparison to the Ozone's?

I would leave terms aside.
Please, check this file again:

I have added test tones, processed tones, and picture with explanation.
When I have run TLS Maximizer in a sharp mode over a music piece, I had an impression of a hard clipper. In dull mode it sounds less obtrusive, but still distorts (harsh).
This might be however acceptable for trancelike music, where clipping is not very critical.
L1/W1 working with 15ms release (which is quite small) didn't give any obtrusive artifacts.
The frequency response of W1 exactly matched L1's.
Tell me if you can make TLS perform better. I don't take 'it just sounds better'. It was the first thing I did - listened to its sound, and it was seriously distorted.
The only material that TLS performs great on - is pure sine tones.

Sharp + fast transient mode gives a release time of ca 0.5ms so yes it will sound pretty harsh at +16db.
But instead of a flat line you get a preserved shape
at the clip points.
Version 1.1 has a knee mode to keep things down a bit
where I would regard this as a kind of added release
time. Still a full 'Dull' wouldn´t get you up to 15ms so this comparison is a bit off.
But hey, it is pretty popular around here to show
charts to prove how much things suck.

Thanks for the elaboration Gyohng. I'll be extremely interested to see your forthcoming limiter compares.
