I guess that makes your comments that much more compelling. Please further enlighten me with your wit, intelligence and most importantly your flowing software reviews. My aim is to bring atmosphere and feeling to music, but with a sense of omniscience.

The first time I demo'd Project5 it crashed on me a few times. This release was probably very unfortunate for Cakewalk. Since the initial release I believe that Project5 has been an incredibly stable application. I bought P5 at v1.5 and I think the only problem I've ever had with it is when I changed the output routings of dr-008 in a song which caused a conflict with the older dr-008 settings. Other than that, the program has been great at what it does, and it is extremely cheap for what you get: $199 gets you the host/sequencer, a rgcaudio synth, a decent sampler, a good drum sampler, a few other synths and some good effects.Cabinfever wrote:project 5 was an ugly unstable & unfriendly piece of shite - oh, well in my opinion anyway. i returned my copy to the dealer who gave me my money back because he'd installed it on his own machine and agreed with me !
This new update looks like it will make Project5 extremely competative in the software studio category. Providing that the v2 release goes smooth I believe that it should be the recommended studio for users to purchase. We shall see.

It certainly looks like a major redesign, and if it does all it says then it could prove a good alternative. I just wonder though whether this is becoming too crowded a marketplace? And also whether Cakewalk can win back credibility after the debacle of the original release.

Providing that their company is in good shape financially, they should have the marketing ability to recover (if their will is there). I think the emphasis for the past 2 years has been on Sonar, and that has paid off from what I can tell. Sonar's reputation is growing and now perhaps Cakewalk can spend a bit more on marketing P5. From a business point of view, it looks like Cakewalk has a lot of potential right now.

I as someone who owned P5 and then sold it (for next to nothing), it looks like they adressed the weaknesses head on. They added a much needed freeze and audio recording. In version 1 there was no way to bounce at all, and the host was more CPU intensive than others in most people's opinion. They also claim to have to have made the engine stable enough for live use which was another major issue, it just wasn't rock solid enough for it's feature set, which included some great stuff for live use.
Even though I sold it, I'm still glad I'm off the P5 merry go round, Cakewalk like to keep things 'closed' to an extent. For example the P5 browser won't recognize midi files only their proprietary 'groove clips'. I also think Cake kept ALL audio features out of version 1 to push people to buy Sonar. Well now that everyone's got Sonar, they break out what I wanted 2 years ago, a non-crippled P5!
Looking at the horizon, hobbiests (and pro's alike) have T2, Live4 and P5 as some very forward looking packages with amazing workflow and finally complete feature sets. It will just come down to taste!

I started with Orion, still own a license, but haven't used it for projects ever since I purchased FL Studio 3.01 couple years ago.vista wrote:ORION is alot better !
Project 5, is a really good try by cakewalk - unfortunately for me, a bit too late. I'm spoiled by FL5!

The main thing is that users of those programs, except Tracktion which is a wonderfully different thing alltogether,Had to wait so long for something that FL has had for a while already.Rick1114 wrote:Looking at the horizon, hobbiests (and pro's alike) have T2, Live4 and P5 as some very forward looking packages with amazing workflow and finally complete feature sets. LOL...yeah we are. I didn't see the humour but apparently "Acolmiztli" found it to be a real knee-slapper...which I guess, in retrospect, doesn't surpise me. Wow a dealer took some software back...it's really not that funny, but some people just want to jump onto the dog-pile.ttoz wrote:chill man. are we even talking about the same quote?LoRez wrote:Gee, well at least now I know I have a thumb on the pulse of your sense of humour. Actually (concerning you ttoz) it was just a little joust...nothing serious and I'm feeling pretty relaxed right now actually
I guess it's like this:
I'm personally not much of an EnergyEXT or Traktion guy and I know a lot of people here are. And even though they do not suit my "needs" (whatever those are) I am smart enough to realize that there must be something worthwhile there to the poeple that use it. I guess it just surprises me when people refuse to accept this about P5.
The other sad (and rather telling) thing is that this thread was about version2...and here we are talking about the original release in no time flat. I just find it wierd that sometimes the most vocal poeple on this forum regarding P5 are people who tried it in one way or another at the initial release and don't even use it anymore.
