Last resource?

Midi-OX turns out to be the perfect solution for many, many problems. I'd be completely lost without it.
I routinely start up with 2 instances of midi-ox, one that maps my controllers to yokes, and another that maps my yokes to output channels. Without Midi-OX, my Edirol UM-880 would not be nearly as useful.

It bothers me that there's really nothing else out there to do what Midi-Ox does, and Midi-Ox developers have moved on and yet kept it closed source. Because I really don't think I could function without it.

Why call it a "last resort?" It's the best thing since bread! (Not merely since "sliced bread!!!")

Don't get me wrong: it looks like a very powerful application, it's lust a last resource for me. I'm only a casual user and I don't have knowledge about midi routing. In fact I find it pretty complicated in the pc platform, and as you said it relies in great but unsupported or old software.

That's why I was searching for a plugin, they are always much easier to use.

I opened Midi-OX a couple of times and didn't know what to do with it. I opened the Devices window and some "objects" started to appear as I single clicked on the lists. It must be a powerful application, but not very intuitive. I'd love to understand it, though.

I've done lots of stuff in MIDI-OX, but I've got to say that often times MFX (or VST-MIDI) is the right solution (if your host can handle the plugins). Adding another component to your system rather than dropping in an integrated extension increases complexity for some people that they'll never fully utilize.

Thanks to all for the help.
I managed to find Steinberg's MFX adapter and so I used Tencrazy's plugin, which seems to be the simplest solution. Plus I can now use other midi plugs.

Hmmm, would that work? Worth the try...

Its a joystick as far as Windows is concidered, right? So you need to (or at leats have the option to) calibrate it, right?

Now what if you only use ONE pedal in calibration? Then the other should become invisible, and the range in other applications for the single pedal should be 0-127!

Could you try that??

Post

I can-t make it work. The axis is splitted between both pedals. You can choose to cancel the split axis mode if you are able to install the control panel of the device. Unfortunately, the installer software is quite buggy and just refuses to run on XP, so you-re left with the simpler built in configuration. Microsoft, for some reason, doesn-t make new installers available via internet.

BTW, does anybody know if there-s a way to catch joystick movements from within Cubase? As for now, I use VMidiJoy, but it'd be great to have everything contained in the host.

Thanks very much for your MFX plugins. I appreciate you post them.

I have it working in MidiOx, Cordura!!

Code: Select all

Start VMidJoy:
 * select MidiYoke #1 as output midi device
 * in Axis Options make sure it sends on channel 0
(do not use pitch bend for now, lets use Modulation Wheel)
This generates CC's 0-60 on MidiYoke port #1

Start MidiOx
 * menu Options - Midi Devices
   * select MidiYoke #1 as input device and MidiYoke #2 as output device
(make sure "automatically attach" is switched on)
 * menu Options - Data Mapping
   * press button Insert
     box When Input Matches:
     > Channel = 1 (same as 0 in VMidiJoy)
     > Event TYpe = Ctrl
     > Ctrl# Min = -1
     > Ctrl# Max = -1
     > Amount Min = 0
     > Amount Max = 60 (or whatever max level the pedal has)
     box Set Output To:
     > Channel = match input
     > event type = match input
     > Ctrl# Min = -1
     > Ctrl# Max = -1
     > Amount Min = 0
     > Amount Max = 127
   * tick Turn Map On (after OK)

and you have CC's 0-127 coming into your host on MidiYoke port #2.
Let me know weather it works for you also..
