Lots of good tips here. Just to add that if your delay effect is causing problems you may want to use a delay that changes the signal in some way to avoid the phasing issues you describe.. maybe a tape delay sim that modulates the pitch / delay time, or some filtering in the feedback path, or even just using a delay time that isn't quite perfectly tempo-synced..

I would say turn the volume down... :)

What is rolling off btw anyways? Is that hi/low cutoff?

like Ghi Glow vst's ?

The delay is part of the synth patch and the song is based on that patch.

I seem to have solved the problem using your IQ4 dynamic EQ. That's a nice piece of work.

The synth patch uses a complicated delay that makes some notes play loud when they coincide with certain of the delay repeated notes. They also can sometimes go an octave higher and get a bit piercing.

I want to push the sound back a bit.

Any ideas?
Yes.

Try errr....umm 'Space Boy'. I don't know if it will do exactly what you want but you (seriously) might like to try this:

Place a Tx and Rx instance of 'Space Boy' as inserts on your synth track (one immediately after the other). The Tx instance will analyse the synth track and find exactly those frequencies that boom (with itself) from time to time and, via the Rx instance, dynamically compress them.

Adjust 'Space Depth' and 'Space Walk' to taste. ('Space Window' may also help - but keep this at a high value).

I just tried this myself - and it works a treat!

Now that's given me another idea.......

Not exactly the same situation, but just tonight I was using Space Boy to push back a "crash and boom" thundery sort of pattern so that there would be room for the 'normal' drum kit.
