Why is it necessary to misspell a word like "tunes" as "choonz" anyway?

Is this supposed to promote better communication?

It just seems to me that it's a way for some people to think that they are hipper and cooler than others.

erm, john - if you spell it "chewnz" it'd be eg. "as in "well chewn.." ruminated.. an abstraction (i would have thought you could handle that concept..) no big deal, so why does it have to be a big deal? if someone wears different colour shoelaces do you ostracise them?
