Saro has one cabinet simulation and the latency is only some tens of samples. If someone volunteers to do a gui, I'll add option to use user provided impulse responses at zero latency (there's a catch: They have to be relatively close miked).

I'm surprised Guitar Suite hasn't been mentioned...

Really nice Marshall sim.

The mda VST is called mda combo. Not bad at all.

I'd like to do a gui for it. I'm relatively new at this so I can't promise anything revolutionary but it will be at least respectable. Here are some skins I did for Kubik 2 and a re-work of FreeverbToo:

Let me know.

OK guys, thanx for helping. Now first impressions of what I tried last night.

Convoboy has a very clear sound and easy interface but the latency remains. Even with the licensed version (which is very cheap BTW) you can't go lower than 22 ms. Soundwise I think it's just equivalent to SIR (it's been discussed extensively in other threads).

Revolverb works with no latency, it's free but there are a few drawbacks: the wet slider needs some calibration IMO. It goes 0-100% but even with 5% the wet signal is present as being a 50-50 dry-wet setting in other plugins. The sound also in not as clear as in ConvoBoy or SIR but I think it's the unavoidable ATM trade-off between latency and quality. However it is usefull to play real time with a semi-decent cab sound and you can always use SIR or Convoboy later

I tried also MDA's combo (not extensively) and it's not bad but ofcourse lacks the variety of sounds one can achieve using some good IRs. Lots of useful plugins in the MDA bundle. Thanx for the suggestion whiterabbyt.

Really nice Marshall sim.
in his first post in this thread zeoy wrote: I noticed that puting SIR with some cabinets' IRs after JCM900 ...
Andy, IMO JCM900 is the best free ampsim esp. for overdriven sounds but I think that something's missing regarding the cab simulation

@anti: I was looking for a cab sim not an amp+cab sim, but if saro is as good as your Asynth :hail: I may change my mind

@JoMal: nice GUIs :!:

Thanx to all responders. If there are other suggestions you are welcome

has anyone heard from antti about the new saro option

Post

My favourite amp sim so far is the JCM900 (works great on bass too!).

Btw (and here goes my self-promoter ego! :hihi: ) you could have a look at Effectizer. If you turn all effects off and move the "amp" knob it just acts as a very simple cabinet simulator, based on allpass and self-oscillating filters. It's mainly intended for keyboards but once I tried it with my guitar and it sounded quite nice.

I like Effectizer. Alot!

I don't remember that one, but there is one called "Combo" that has cabinets built in.
