Thanks Cyanogen!

I'm definately keen on Keane then.

And no ones said The Doors yet? :?

Post

But Keane uses a CP-70.... while very cool its no rhodes...

Post

- Steely Dan, really cool rhodes work.

- George Duke (wish he wasn't so sugary tho, cool on Zappa albums, Roxy & Elsewhere + YCDTOSA 2)

- Sly&The family Stone (everything)

This is sad. Nobody has brought up The Roots - Things Fall Apart. Heathens all of you!

Of course, George Duke! Told you my memory was failing. >_<

Did Duke play EP on "Grand Wazoo?" Wait, I can look that up... sure enough. Love that album.

Mmmm, big list o' Mothers albums and songs with George Duke!

Post

Another great, though usually thought of in connection with tonewheel organ -- Booker T. Jones (of Booker T and the MGs) plays some sweet EP sometimes. "Chinese Checkers" prominently features a heavily overdriven sound.

My spies inform me that Steven West wrote:And no ones said The Doors yet? :?
Heh. If it's any consolation, I still think that "Mr. Ray" should refers to (or reefer to?) Ray Manzarek! :hihi:
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Thanks to all who have replied... I have lots of listening to do! I am relative newbie to this forum but have pulled out lots of great info. Hopefully I can pay it forward someday!

Max Middleton on Jeff Beck's Blow By Blow, Wired, as well as some previous Jeff Beck Group things. (I like the instrumentals, i.e. BbB and Wired, better.)

Chick Corea's album Friends.

Speaking of which, what was that bass keyboard Ray used? It had white on black keys, I think.

Oh you have to check out these two cd's i got lately, for sure.

Perry Hemus - Rhodesmode (yeah, it caught my attention for the name : ) - jazz with a touch of synths and a touch of bossa, really really good pianowork in all the tracks

Hird - Moving on (i think it's called like that, i've got it in my car can't check it out right now, and i remember only the name of the song 'keep you kimi', worth checking out, jazz meets electronica a-la koop, not really virtuoso rhodes performance but good crystal clear sounds, also good to study a nice contemporary fx and mix technique on the instrument.
je n'ai pas besoin de copier.

Miles Davis - In A Silent Way. Chick Corea AND Herbie Hancock.

If Meffy can mention Sound Chaser, can I add the intro to Pink Floyd's "Sheep"? I managed to tweak Learjeff's soundfont into a very passable imitation of this in Kontakt. Now if only I could play the bloody thing...

:D

It was a little Fender 'Bass Keyboard' (Used to know the name? ) And of course some great electric piano work by Ray on 'Riders On The Storm'. ;)

So that IS a CP-70 Keane was using - sounds much different in their music. They use it well. :hihi:

I think the best rhodes song ever is "Amon Tobin - Easy Muffin"

I'm also afraid of frogs that talk, but I mean how many of those actually exist? probably about 3, Darth Vader.

Post

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew (and some, um, trumpet)
Phish - "Split Open And Melt" (on Lawn Boy w/ Memphis Horns)
Beatles - "Get Back" (Mister Billy Preston)
early Talking Heads (all over '77 & More Songs About Buildings And Food)
Nearly any song from the seventies.....
