that's almost a fair point mick, about alienating readers. but there was a time when magazines moved to CD only instead of floppies, and people said the same thing then.
there's no point in not having a DVD drive nowadays, you may aswell be prepared. better yet, get a DVD writer. they are really cheap now, cheaper than my first dual speed CDROM drive was back in the day.. backups are so much easier straight to DVD-R

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

If people stop buying the mag, why complain?Kriminal wrote:A letter in this months issue asked about the DVD/alienating readers. They said so far they had 2 complaints.
Seems pointless.
The complaint is in the reduction in circulation.

Yup, fair enough.haydxn wrote:that's almost a fair point mick, about alienating readers. but there was a time when magazines moved to CD only instead of floppies, and people said the same thing then.

But, operating on a budget, there are other things that are way more vital. Know what I mean?
Need more RAM, need a new sound card...
A DVD writer is bottom of the stack of needs I'm afraid.

I don't have a DVD drive here in Greece either and while it wouldn't stop me from buying CM normally, when I saw it in a shop a couple of days ago I didn't buy it there and then as I usually do. I just thought 'well, I can get it tomorrow or something'. So i got a mag about retro games instead [it had a really cool Amiga emulator, all legal and stuff, on the CD coverdisc

I stopped buying CM because of the DVD. Maybe some day I'll need a DVD writer, but I get by just fine with CD.
Anyway,I buy mags for the CD's. The last FM I got had layered drum samples. That pretty much made my set up complete.

I don't know guys.
Where I live (Phx US) CM magazine is $14.99 or $180 a year if you want to look at it that way.
A DVD-ROM is $19.99 and it's still $19.99 after a year of use.
Not to mention that the last 3 music programs that I purchased all came on DVD.
