all good, I'm not huffy, maybe I am the one who misunderstood here.

like I said, all good, no hard feelings at all.

and BTW, my song is not ripping off any of those bands, I'm simply giving reference to similar genres so people have an understanding of what it might be about.

and McLilith, I wish you would have left your criticism up so I could refer to it and think about it.

no joke.

seriously, I appreciated your opinion and all. I don't mind hearing criticism that's negative or whatever. I but didn't see a need for you to post your own tunes in my thread to try to prove some point.

I don't really want to get off on a bad foot, so I'll just say Peace man, I'll check some of your stuff out.

:)
Originally, this post of yours simply contained one sentence:

"start your own thread"

I seriously thought you wanted me to leave, so I deleted all my potentially annoying humorous banter and left, as I thought you so wished.

My critque of your piece definitely included some positive things. I defended the posting of pop music to KVR, and tried to tell you that others post pop music here from time to time, and some of it is very well received. I went on to say that I wasn't an expert on the bands you referenced on your web site, but I gave you my opinion as best I could. I said that the snare seemed a bit too harsh, the vocals seemed a bit "blurry" at times, and that with my tinittus acting up, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't listen to the lyrics more closely, because that snare drum was irritating my tinittus. I had also said in an earlier post that while I had joked a bit about your choice of thread title, I thought your tune was pretty good. In fact, I believe that if you had the right studio people and facilities, there should be no reason you wouldn't sound at least as good as the bands you referenced on your web page.

Lastly, I made the mention of my own music, as a "goodwill joke". I invited you to come and critique some "nerd music". (Actually, I really have no idea if my music qualifies as nerd music in your mind.) The idea being, I would serve as your personal punching bag, if you still felt a need to show some disrespect (feigned or otherwise) to "nerd music". I was trying to show you that most people who post music different than yours, though they might joke around with you a bit, still respect the music you make. I gave you an honest review, and I didn't realize that giving you a chance to either reciprocate, or make some more "nerd music" jokes (at my expense), would be offensive to you. I even peppered my post with those cute little emoticons. :) <-- Look, there's one now!

When I saw that one-sentence post of yours, "start your own thread". I thought you were basically telling me to piss off, so I did.

So why am I back now?

You were nice enough to give me an honest review of my latest piece of music, and I began to think that maybe I over-reacted a bit to your "start your own thread" remark. So I came back here, and sure enough, that seems to be the case.

I'm sorry if I caused any inconvenience.

By the way, could you please tell me, what the hell is "Nerd Music"?

Does properly enjoying it involve the use of a slide rule or something?

How would one know if they were producing nerd music? What are the warning signs? :help:

take care,
McLilith

Post

McLilith, thanks for coming back and giving me a chance to apologize for over-reacting (if that's the case). I now know your sense of humor a little better than I did before

I appreciate the criticism. However, I think the snare sounds great. :D

I don't know or care what nerd music is.
I think everyone should make exactly what they feel like making. I was just making lite of a thread that seemed to inspire some controversy here a little while ago.

I changed the title of the thread because I was afraid people weren't understanding my sense of humor.
Some of the replies will no longer make sense...

Thank God, I thought I was losing it for a minute there.
TBH, I don't hear much goth influence in there at all, its very commercial sounding rock /pop to me. Well done, I suppose, but very '80's. If anything it reminds me of A Flock of Seagulls.

I don't know about the other 'rent-a-drones', but I wasn't offering advice on a pop-tune, I was offering suggestions on goth/alternative considering that's what he compared the track to..

That ok with you, dickhead?

I don't think it's really goth either.
I guess to me, goth is more of the image associated with darker modern rock sounding stuff.
Definitely minor key shit though.
I think you can do it without having to wear black and dye your hair.

The vocal melody and some of the clean verse guitar are what I think are a bit sister-ish. Not trying to rip anyone off, that's just the way it comes out sounding.

I don't know if anyone else has said this yet, but I personaly think that the snare has a bit too much noise on it. I would turn the noise amount down, or if it is sample-based then LP Filter cut it down the slightest bit. Other than that it is pretty impressive.

Yeah, the snare hurt McLilith's ears...

I personally like it though. I do appreciate you taking the time to check it out and offer an opinion.

Both the singer and I spent too many years standing in little shitty rehearsal studios getting our high end hearing destroyed by drummers crashes.
The by product of that is that we always mix our music a bit high end-y. It's a trait that the stuff we do together has and we kinda dig it like that. We also want it to be a wee bit lo-fi and noisy and not completely polished.

I would only agree with that about the guitar part in the mid section. Is that the part you're talking about?

cool track, bake.

it definitely doesn't sound like flock of seagulls.

.....nor the cure.

.....maybe....old new order or depeche mode.

actually reminds me a bit of The Faint.

Anyway, I thought the track was good. The snare was a little loud but it didn't really bother me. Maybe it could be turned down a tad but I definitely like the sound.

The guitar needs a bit more body. sounds a bit too solid state for my taste.

also, the change that comes in at 2:16 sounds strange. i like the part but the transition sounds forced.

the song is great and really catchy. will definitely listen to other stuff you put up here.
