Waves for removing Crackle and Noise
Audition for everything else esp. Hiss
I also use something like ReFX Spectrix to restore high frequencies.
Than a touch of Waves MultiMaximizer for that cd sound and extra punchyness.

I was just about to ask about this. Are you referring Sound Soap Pro, or the cheaper, less functional version?

Umm...i don't have the pro one...just the little VST plugin. Can't use pro as i'm not on XP...but i've got to say, that little soundsoap vst plugin is all i've used for noise reduction since i bought it. It's not great for pinpointing and doing specific graphical changes....for that i would buy the pro version, or peak or soemthing like that (all from the same company) but i've gotten amazing results by just running the audio through and slightly tweaking. If you've got the money and it'll run on your system though, i'd say get the pro one...mines so good, i can't even imagine what the pro one is capable of.

Thank you. You answered my question perfectly.

Like you, I'm not looking for something to pinpoint and eliminate/reduce portions of the signal. I just have a lot of tape cassete recordings of live performances I'd like to improve on. Nothing drastic. I'm, just looking to reduce tape hiss and crackle.

Looks like I'll be picking up a new toy to play with this weekend.
