R2.5 -rewire to VST host- what of reason is best to learn???

haha no problem.womoma wrote:Thanks for the encouragment Mr Tunes, Ive a frog in my throat now, oh you.

reason is just very unique. it is a program that has grown on me for a long time. my main gripe with it has been solved in reason 3 from what i've heard and that is that 2/2.5 has a cold digital sound to it.
V3 adds the mastering section and a new device for layering sounds. the "reason" i never cared about the cold digital sound was that it does this so the program can run as efficiently as it does. this is the main thing i've learned about reason over the time i've gotten to know her, she just runs nicely.

thanks man- as a beginner its always nice to hear encouragement.
I did a couple of tutorials and Im starting to enjoy Reason a bit more now. I was worried that version 2.5 would be out of date soon but on further investigation, its gonna be a very usefull ap for quite some time.

Then I'm one of those people that are full of shit.Warmonger wrote:Whoever said "Sonar and Reason work well together" is, quite simply, full of shit.
I'd say that 80% of my stuff (link below) is Sonar controlling Reason.
I think the Sonar 16 device limit is bullshit. But they still work well together for me.

yeah totally there's enough in V2.5 to keep you going for ages. just make sure you run your final mixes into some mastering plugins through Sonar or whatever to phatten up the sound.womoma wrote:I was worried that version 2.5 would be out of date soon but on further investigation, its gonna be a very usefull ap for quite some time.

Though Scream4 can fatten up any single instrument tracks!Mr. Tunes wrote:just make sure you run your final mixes into some mastering plugins through Sonar or whatever to phatten up the sound.
I love that little guy.
(though I wish he were a VST!

I usually use around 100 machines in my songs, so controlling the first 16 REALLY does not cut it for me. This limitation is present in P5 v2.0 also, which suuuucks.Markleford wrote:Then I'm one of those people that are full of shit.Warmonger wrote:Whoever said "Sonar and Reason work well together" is, quite simply, full of shit.

However, with Reason 3.0 I found a pretty sweet workaround for this. What you do is load up a mixer and 14 empty combinators in Reason right away. As you build your instruments and effects, keep them in the combinators. You can midi control just the combi's from Sonar. Works pretty well.

It's extremely easy to work around using Midi Yoke or similar and the hardware interface. That gives you control of ANY 64 devices from Sonar into Reason.Warmonger wrote:Whoever said "Sonar and Reason work well together" is, quite simply, full of shit. Another workaround is to simply rearrange your devices so that the ones receiving MIDI input are at the top, and the ones that aren't go at the bottom. So there are clearly several ways to get around this limitation. Just as there are ways to get around the single stereo pair input from Reason.
My point is that Sonar, when used as an extension to a Reason-centric production, is lacking in some rather significant ways, and there are hosts that handle it better. IMO, Tracktion is the best of the bunch, Live is also pretty good, but most other hosts I've tried are only somewhat better than Sonar.
If the limitations of the Reason-Sonar combination aren't relevant to you, then it is a very good choice. In fact, considering the remaining bugs in Tracktion's Rewire implementation, Sonar could well be considered the better host. It's just sad that after 3 or 4 major revisions since Rewire 2.0 was released, the major hosts still have so many problems.

No argument from me on that point! It was these issues that saw me looking for another host, which is how I ended up with Tracktion. These days I use both, because T still isn't ready for some kinds of projects but it's bloody brilliant as a capture-an-idea-fast host.Warmonger wrote:My point is that Sonar, when used as an extension to a Reason-centric production, is lacking in some rather significant ways, and there are hosts that handle it better.
But then, I never minded Reason's sequencer either
