Any good, free Hip-Hop/R&B samples?2005-05-13T17:30:59+00:00I'm having trouble getting the right vibe for a commercial piece. The client wants hip-hop, and I think I'm lacking in decent samples like minor guitar chord hits, horn/string loops or something unusal to get me going. I've tried about 4-5 songs for these guys and I'm just not hitting it.
is there anywhere on the net that has any good samples? Just need something to draw inspiration and not get sued over. It used to be easy to find samples, now, they're all pay.

A few years ago I was using soundfonts extensively. The +Hip Hop Combo.sf2 soundfont wasn't online on any legit free sites. I found it on a crappy warez disc a friend of mine lent me. Soon after I started using Sonic Synth...
First off, I'm going to say that I think I solved my problem by taking the weekend to not even touch a computer and taking it easy. I also fell asleep last night listening to a rap/hip-hop station...
Now this Emu thing is interesting; I just used some record scratches from "E-Mu Pure Phatt.sf2", it's about 27M and I got it from sf2midi.com for free...I think it might have been retail at some point, but it looks like you can't even buy Emu soundfonts from Creative anymore. They just have this...lovely, professional-looking splash up at soundfont.com now:
Oi Vey. You know that guy only uses Pro Tools!
Seriously, though, that sf2 was actually pretty cool, and a big thanks to everyone who's helped with advice.
