How come you are only able to run the older PoCo stuff at tops 48 kHz? I'm able to run most of the plugs @96 on my PCI and Element :?

Post

hes talking nonsense - some plugs admittedly only run at 48 because they use too much dsp - ie the virus, the helicon stuff - and others the assimilator will only run at 96 on the firewire (or the forthcoming pci 2) becuase they use more cpu than an element

but most of the plugs run quite happily at 96 khz and the reverbs are awesome at that level
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

how many Sony Oxford EQs you can get with TC's powercore Firewire

Can I just mention that I am very happy with my UAD-1?
Well I just did.

Look here, on the EQ FAQ. Multiply the chart numbers by 1,5 , since the PoCo FW is 50% more powerful than the PCI Classic/Element on which the chart is based. Also note that the numbers are per DSP, the FW has 4.

Do you know when it's coming out?

SEA 8)
The PCI MKII is due out at the end of this month (may)

i own a poco firewire im well happy with it , i also bought the virus/powercore which sounds exactly the same as my hardware virus c , so i wont be using my C anymore.

thanks akisd28 on my way to the store

With the TC Powercore you get 14 highend plugs that don't use your CPU.
Not really. It's an illusion to think using a dsp-audiocard will not load your host-cpu.

Dunno exactly what but there are some processes; like ASIO-stream, calculation of GUI etc ..

On my AMD Thunderbird 1400 8 ClassicVerbs f.e. make nearly 40 procent of cpu usage.

I was very disappointed 'cause i thought their marketing is true.

I'd suggest you bought Sony plugs for PoCo from JRR. You get an extra 10% discount if you mention you are a forum member and they deliver the plug by e-mail, so you pay no shipping. Even their starting price is much better than Sony's.

i tried with my Amd 3500 - 8 UAD-1 Realverb Pro`s took 4 % cpu usage
thats not so much :D

then tried 8 ArtAcoustica verbs which used 75 - 90%

I have just purchased yesterday my second UAD-1 :) :) :)

i own a poco firewire and im happy with it , now im interested in buying a UAD-1 , Does the UAD-1 only have 1 DSP chip ? , roughly how many plugins can i expect to run on 1 card.

Post

It has 1 DSP chip, but it is equally or more powerful than the 4 a PoCo PCI/Element has. The instance count depends on the plug; see here.

Thanks for the reply akisd28 , performance looks fine to me think ill see how much money i have left after paying all the bill's lol.

one more question which may sound silly but is the card very thick as my last available PCI slot hasn't got a lot of room either side of it , so basically do the chips stick out very far or is the card rather slender ?
