On Mac OS X, you say? You can save ST2 presets, but not the SS2 ones? No guarantees, but in the Finder, select the SS2Instruments folder, "Get Info", and check "Ownership & Permissions". Is it set to "Read Only"? If so, change it, and its contents, to "Read & Write". Worth a look anyways:-)
I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back.

I've noticed there are some odd bugs with child presets on some OSX hosts right now. It will be fixed soon. Please email IK and give info about your problem, which host etc. You can save your tweaks as combis temporarily. Sorry about that. I am not sure how/why this happened but it is definitely something on top of the list to correct.

I'm on Windows XP. I noticed that I can save some preset, but others not.
Some presets get confused if they are installed on more than one place. I was trying to save the patch "Ohh-Ahh Female Choir" of ST2. But the child preset never showed up. Then I did a search for the .stip file and I found it in my "Free ST Sound" folder, which has the same preset.
I'll send it over to IKM.
BTW: If you like "Angelic choirs"
Angelic, stretch is great!! Take a Choir preset, and set it to stretch. Now you can play those nice high angelic voices (mostly, with some presets it doesn't work).
