MIDI FX ?

I once found out about MFX. Then I found it's not always supported (AFAIK Tracktion and eXT don't support it), and there are not many plugins for it. You'll have to solve both problems, otherwise it won't work. And I think you might just as well do a MIDI-only plugin as a VST.

MFX is the format of MIDI plugin developed by Cakewalk, currently only compatible with Cakewalk hosts and Steinberg SX/SL/SE/Nuendo.scamme wrote:MFX?????????????????????????????????????????????
Using the term 'MIDI FX' as a generic substitute for 'MIDI plugin' can be confusing because of the similarity to 'MFX' which is a specific format of MIDI plugin.

DR-008 has its own MIDI plugin format (drum deploy modules) which use a different SDK to MFX.
VST is most often used because it is most widely supported (by both host and plugin developers). (Sort of a catch 22 of plugin support, more devlopers are prepared to support a format when it is already supported by others.
