Yup, he wrote the titlemusic for the Simpsons as well... he's almost always involved with Burtons stuff as noted, and is generally a cool guydeema wrote:Didn't I see his name in the credits of The Simpsons (among other things)?AHC wrote:...and maybe Danny Elfman ( Tim Burton's music)

I always thought that Danny Elfman's soundtrack music was overly "busy" and intricate for my taste. It almost seemed as if he was being paid by-the-note or something.

You really need to check out WILL. It was a project involving a people from some high--profile EBM acts of the early '90's. Word, Flesh, Stone is their best offerring. In fact, I just put it on - perfect for a cold Sunday morning. Just do a music search on amazon for it. Then there is LEAETHER STRIP's Serenade For The Dead, which is strictly what you're qasking about but I would recommend you also check out Solitary Confinement and Underneath the Laughter. Then there is SCRAPING FOETUS OFF THE WHEEL's seminal Nail which is still my all-time favourite album. Of course, there is also our very own DEAD CAN DANCE.

good call. I was going to add that to McLilith's list. Mars, Bringer of War is a brutal piece - one of my all time favorites. Shostakovich has a piece that I caught on the radio one night that was really dark and moving, but I didn't catch which piece it was, and haven't been out to buy up everything I can find to identify it. someone suggested that it could be his ninth symphony, but I dunno...Innominandum wrote:Almost forgot....

Yeh the Dracula score was great, really gothic!
If you like that kind of thing then you should check out some of Elliot Goldenthall's stuff. 'Alien 3' was AMAZING, and 'Interview with the Vampire' wasnt bad either.Eric Serra's 'Fifth Element' score is pretty tame on the most part, but also has the occassional dark moment.

I quite like Elfman's work. He seems to be flavour of the month lately. IF you want something really scary then you should hear his 'Desperate Housewives' themeMcLilith wrote:I always thought that Danny Elfman's soundtrack music was overly "busy" and intricate for my taste. Which Dracula soundtrack? There have been legions of Dracula movies.herodotus wrote:And don't forget This crazy chick, whose voice was used in the Dracula soundtrack (during the dying scene, I believe)
I don't remember her from Bram Stoker's Dracula, if that's the one you mean. (That was the only Dracula movie mentioned by name in this thread.) I also don't see her listed in the album credits.
take care,

You can hear her cackling manically in the scene where they are sitting on a ledge surrounded by fire.McLilith wrote:I don't remember her from Bram Stoker's Dracula, if that's the one you mean. Heard a piece by her on Brainwashed Radio the other day. Very, very, very dark.
I'm not too fond of her gospel work.

Check out anything by In The Nursery.
Diamanda Galas' stuff isn't that classically influenced but "Plague mass" album is maybe the closest call.
There's also "Mein Hertz Brennt", classical orchesterlied versions of Rammstein classics.
Finally, feel free to check out the songs on my website.

Shinjuku Thief's 'Witch Hammer/Witch Hunter/Witch Haven' trilogy on the Dorobo label is an absolute must-hear for this sort of thing, as is his 'Medea' CD . Why he hasn't been hired for mainstream soundtrack work is beyond me. Gorgeous packaging too. Info at Dorobo:
