That's good to know. Thanks for the input. I was pretty much reaching that decision myself. I will get deep with RA.
Yes, I know Heart of Asia has lots of other stuff. I will tend to use that less since I prefer to write my own parts most of the time. When it fits I'm not really concerned about it having been used before. I'm producing music for the listening experience it provides. Only a very, very small number of listeners would ever know something like this has been used before and even then if they are truly interested in listening and not judging it shouldn't bother too much.
These things are all tools and when used in an effective manner and not as a substitute for compositional skill they are perfectly valid and respectable tools. There's no reason to worry about using your tools. That said, if all you do is arrange riffs you're simply making a musical collage. You're an arranger. If you want to compose you must actually compose. Both can be valid art forms, but they are very different things.

There is a thread on this at the soundsonline forum. Not available yet as far as I can tell, but the response from Jennifer was that it would be available later THIS week.
From what I can tell it seems like there would be no real reason to go for Ethno if you have RA. However, it does look like it might be a very nice and cheaper alternative to RA.
I also have the Pro Samples cheaper disk.

I've only reviewed them briefly, never used them in a song yet, so I'm not really sure.Left Headphone wrote:emdot_ambient and Herman:
How do the string and bowed instruments sound?

I said "crispy" actually. I'm referring to the amount of high frequency detail and the un-treated quality of the sounds (no audible noise reduction etc.).Liondream wrote:Herman, what do you mean when you say "crunchy" in describing these samples?

Okay, that makes sense. The things you mention can be dealt with, fortunately.

So...
Ethno World 3 finally showed up on Sounds Online for anyone not ordering directly from Best Service:
http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/det ... sku=BS-392
Just under half the price of RA. So, possibly an alternative for anyone on a tight budget and who needs the sounds offered.
Something to keep an eye out for might be if Sounds Online has a sale.
