Arriving in my studio soon: Pet cat. (Your advice?)

I've rarely had trouble with humans. Even the least disciplined ones seem to become reasonably docile and compliant around me. *shrug* Go figure.Lazarus wrote:It's the humans you got to watch out for.
Pet cats don't care if you're an anthro skunk, though. They do what they want. Ah well, can't have everything.

In my experience it does work.vurt wrote:PaulSC wrote: I do plan to get a couple of scratching posts and encourage the cat to use them.
never spend money on things like this for the cat,it will just stare at you holding it while it uses the edge of the settee anyway, why waste the money.
also cat beds pffft they just sleep on you anyway so forget that.
if any cat owners can explain the reason behind cats pawing at a pillow before they lay down that would be cool,i mean surely it can be to make the pillow softer as ive seen her do it in the drive
Cats need to soften/sharpen (dunno which) their nails, they'll use whatever works best for them. If they don't like what you offer them, get something with catsnip inside.
The pillow pawing thing is something they do while drinking mother's milk.
Wish I had a cat, but I live in an appartment, and cats need space IMO.

i always seem to get cats that just look tame as if to say "why buy that when you have this lovely expensive settee?"

the only thing i would be worrying about regarding cats would be random key events coming in on comps / synths. OTOH, you might be able to capture a brilliant cat solo

One of my three cats is a cord-chewer. He also happens to be the one that hangs out in my studio most of his day!
I put up cardboard so he can't get to the cables. That's it.
Our cats are spayed/neutered and front-declawed, so they don't have any other problems.

You could always find a good diversion - our cat completely ignores all of my gear (no shapening of claws on my guitars, no biting of cables) but when my wife starts singing he bites her! The strange thing is she's actually a good singer (sings in a classical chorus with well known orchestras and conductors) - now if it my singing I'd say I deserved it.

Cats had destroyed almost every plant in our house until we started the lockout.
The only music gear they ever showed interest in was speaker cones, so I tried this out with great success: I let them in the room, and put on a sound effects cd that has a caterwauling cat on it, which I played in loop mode.
Not only has this kept the cats from messing with the speakers, it provided hours of amusement, as they tried, panic stricken, to find out where the noise was coming from and why it had such a mild smell accompanying it.

but most people grow out of it i adulthood, just everything else about cats to me suggests supreme intelligence but they let themselves down with the incessant padding,if they grow out of that they could take over the world
