Thus why they are not mentioned...hehe that and the fact
that they takes a little effort getting used to. That
being said I enjoy mine.

I would not say "lightyears ahead" - but still very worthwhile.

The main reason why I bought my two UADs is the DSP power. I'm using almost only virtual instruments and the point where my songs are done is usually determined by CPU power running out. And when it comes to mixdown there's essentially none left.
And that's when two DSPs cards with excellent bread-and-butter-effects come in VERY handy. They GREATLY improved the quality of my mixes since I now CAN and DO use an EQ and compressor on every track.

1176 will become your favourite track compressor. The CambridgeEQ is an excellent EQ which MAY have native competition, but runs on the DSP and saves your CPU power.
EMT140 is one of the nicest reverbs I know (not suitable for everything tho).

Nigel does stink a little, and I don't really like the pro- and dreamverb either. So I got two project-packs, got LA2A for free, and got coupons worth of 150 which bought my CambridgeEQ.

.. i really really dig my uad-1 plugs, but i wouldnt say that they´re lightyears ahead.

for example, instead of the pultec pro i prefer Hydratone.
anyway, its top to have them, and the quality is superb to my ears .. :)

let your grandmother be the judge

I couldn't live without the 1176, LA2A, Cambridge & Fairchild anymore. Their characters are very unique and i haven't found any non-UAD effects to sound like those yet. On the other hand i'm still using my arsenal of non-UAD effects cause the UAD's (except for the Cambridge) aren't applicable in every situation.

My advise:
Go for it! Your drums and basses will thank you and you won't regret it.

For compressers nothing touches the uad-1, have had 2 for over a year.
1176se you can use a substitute for 1176n only if you don't push it hard.

The cambridge sounds ok cutting, but not amazing at boosting. At 96khz it sounds great boosting and cutting.... but nothing beats URS eq's..... I bought hydratone, loved it but heavy on cpu......have been using urs at a studio but cant afford them just yet.

The chorus plugin is actually very very close to the Boss ce-1, and whoever said that there are better native ones, has never used one. Chorus has allways been let down by vsti's like phasers have. But the Uad-1chorus is very good, just make sure your track is stereo and not mono.

I bought the fairchild, like it on vocals but havn't got my head round it yet.

La 2a is good on bass and I allways use it at the end of a 1176n chain for vocals.

I'd say its about character, if you want warmth in your production then these plugs are for you, they are better than any other compression plug in.

UAD-1 are awesome, but there will be a slight problem when the PCI bus no longer exist on new mother boards. :?

Hei, guys, please, post some a/b samples (with settings included in txt) where you think UAD-1 compressors introduce themselves the best. Would be something of a real complement to those favourable replies of yours and I'm sure of great help to all of us, clueless boys.

Someone will come up with an adapter I suspect.

When that day comes, the old computer with all the PCI cards will be networked in and provide even more CPU power. Course, by then all of the current plugs we are using now will be obsolete cause of all the new and greater software available.

Yes.

To my ears, the annihilate everything else out there. They just have a vibe no other plugs have.

If your monitors are shite, the improvement may be slight. With proper monitors the sound will give you a chubby.

btw - go with the Studio Pack (or even the older Mackie card).

Why the Studio?

Definitely a good choice for the old wallet since there seem like a lot of Studio Paks floating around for resale, but I really feel like those four premium plugs in the full bundle look hard to do without, particularly since I plan to (try to) master my own songs.
