Tony, is your WX5 the sax type thing (all I can find online) or is it based on trumpet mouthpiece and valve fingering?
yah the wx5 is a sax style controller, i learned sax after trumpet, even bad sax players get more gigs and solos than good trumpeters.

theres 3 trumpet style controllers, the akai and steiner evi's and the morrison digital trumpet.

you can find links to all of em here:

OK - thanks for those links.

I did it in the other order so I would probably find the sax fingering easier although the MDT looks pretty amazing - pricy though (ouch!).

I've seen Morrison playing live since he was about 19 but he was playing the EWI thing last time I saw him using a synth controller. Besides his trumpet playing he has the most amazing tone and facility on trombone.

At least for now the sax controllers are far easier and ill tell yah why, it because all the trumpet style controls force you to employ your leftt hand to control where in the harmonic series you are, theres none that do it by breath speed (probably wont be for awhile).

akai has you roll your left thumb over touch sensitive rollers and the mdt uses buttons.

the nice thing about the mdt is you can assign controllers that are placed all over the thing, more even than the wx5.

[/quote] All I can say is damn! This is a nice ripping piece. Reminds me a little of Tom Browne (as gregjazz says) but more, at leat to my ears, like Maynard Ferguson from Primal Scream. Terrific stuff.

Ahh, yes I have it now. Don't know, maybe I was doing something wrong there

I appreciate the hard work that apparently goes into this physical modelling project.

Yesterday I downloaded and played the beta patches via a master keyboard and breath controller with a great deal of expectations. I did find an expressive instrument which is already fun to deal with...congrats to the achievement so far:-)

I then proceeded and started to do detailed A/B tests with my Yamaha VL1-m ver. 2 with existing, fine-tuned trumpet voices. It was at this time I also reinvested some appreciation to the achievments done by Stanford/Yamaha more than a decade ago:-). In fact, the more I played and listened the more I'm convinced that the Yamaha VL-1's PM models of trumpets, (incl. saxophones, bass clarinets, etc.), combining expressivity, adjustability and realism, are still the ones to be rivalled even today.

There is a slight "plastic" touch with the existing beta versions that I find disturbing to listen to in the long run. It might be able to get this effect reduced with a dedicated wind controller (I´m a keyboardist with a breath controller and don't know what can be altered by shifting instrument) but in all instances I've listened to so far this "plastic" feeling is quite noticable.

Based on the developer's previous records I'm though quite confident that this project will evolve to something really useful. Keep it going:-)

In fact, don't believe it. It's a real trumpet.

Apparently Bernhardt Jeff is saying that the clip is actually a recording of Jon Faddis - and not done with MilesTone. I just about passed out when I first heard it, thinking it was Milestone. Either way, it's a great clip. :D

Sounded more like Arturo Sandoval to me. I know I've heard this before but can't remember which album.
