Sascha Franck wrote:You gotta explain that.jens wrote: nope - it's also that you can grab them with much more strength...
well, that's actually pretty hard for me to explain - e.g. when I want to give it a real punch I pick the strings with up to three fingers at once (usually in combination with a short fast slide down) - some bass-players ocassionally knock the strings on the fretboard with their fist, etc. try to do that with a guitar - of course these are extremes but anyway bass-strings are often put into motion with much more ennergy which results in 'sharper' transients - and that's part of the punch...

no, not neccessarily - that's another extreme example but I didn't mention it...markdeaton wrote:you mean slapping/popping???

I don't know why , but Your jcm900 is missing a spring reverb sectionmarkdeaton wrote:www.strafed.net/stuff/jcm.jpg
btw the combination of TS and Jcm900 doesn't GENERATE any noise - you can see that if you mute your inputs it will be completely silent (and i mean 100% digital silence - zero)
btw#2 tried your settings and it seems that my emg equipped 7 connected directly to emu1212M line in (in a room full of electromagnetic fields) is much less noisy than your setup.

Mutant: it's there, for some reason I have to resize the window to see it. i don't use it anyway.
also, that's not all of my chain. there's a few other odds and ends in there as well: compressor, eq, etc, which i'm sure adds to the noise.
i've muted my inputs and still get it. i have NO IDEA why i'm getting all this noise with the inputs muted. it boggles me to no end.
are you going through a DI box when you "connect directly" to your EMU? according to this thread, that's naughty business! lol.

Hmmm if you mute something (in a digital environment) you should always get a zero and if you (digitally) amplify zero you should always get only a zero.markdeaton wrote:i've muted my inputs and still get it. i have NO IDEA why i'm getting all this noise with the inputs muted. it boggles me to no end.

i understand, but the emulator is still sitting there idle waiting for input (not muted). i'm using reaper so maybe i'm not muting the same way. i'm using ASIO monitoring - if i mute the emulator, then it won't have an effect and well... that's useless.

No - only guitar + good cable + emu converters - i tried DI box + preamp but it gave me more noise without any signal improvement.markdeaton wrote:are you going through a DI box when you "connect directly" to your EMU? according to this thread, that's naughty business! lol.

I just pulled the link to this track from the Cockos Reaper forum and gave it a listen, getting ready to drop you a line and here you are over here! Well I liked your track, very nice, a little hum brings it into the real world doesn't it. Nice playing, nice production.markdeaton wrote:here's a little diddy i just slammed together in reaper. i'm really digging the jcm900 emulator.
i'm NOT digging noise gates at the moment so i left it out. try to listen around the racket. starts out with the guitar volume about 50%, then i fire it up to 100% halfway through. i swear, i can almost hear some feedback on the second bend about 60% in. can anyone else hear it?
amazing stuff this software. the emulator seems to really dig in hard and nasty when compressed and the gain is pushed up.

I dont understand. Are you saying that soundcards with HiZ inputs are better than i.e. audiobuddy (which also acts like DI by the way) conected to line inputs of i.e. Delta Audiophile?Sascha Franck wrote:Usually, regardless of DI boxes, thr results won't be as good as using a soundcard with Hi-Z inputs. I've compared the two and for me the results I'm getting right now are miles ahead of anything DI-ed (plus a quite reasonable mixer).
