mm just tried a few tests - it is only a problem when no sound is being sent to it, runs great (3-4%) when it is doing it's thing with no problems it just when no signal is being processed

Well, this certainly smells like a denormal problem to us. We'll look in to it. Until then, you might want to put the digitalfishphones Normallizer in front of it. This should solve any issues of this sort temporarily.

What are your asio settings (sampling rate, buffer size, etc)? AFAIK Reverence is designed to run at 44.1kHz rather than higher. At higher rates, I get the same scenario as you (with no input, CPU goes to 48% at 96kHz), but no issue at 44.1.darrenn wrote:I just bought reverence too and it's whacking out my cpu - on the first preset "Good start" after about 20 seconds the performance meter in SX shoots up to 90%. Huh. It _should_ run fine at 48kHz regardless. (It will sound a bit brighter, of course.) Reverbs are a real problem with different sampling rates, because they're basically made up of filters and delays, which are quite sensitive to sampling rate changes.

The 48 was CPU % of a P4 3GHz. But only if I make some noise into it then delete the input. Actually, just tested same scenario at 48kHz, it is roughly the same as 44.1.

What's the relevance of this statement. Is this a convolution based reverb? If not wouldn't it be better to compare the cpu load to other reverb algorithms? I only ask because cpu load is a biggy for me.Reverence has a much lower CPU load than convolution reverbs

morelia my cpu hit is about 5% on a amd sempron 3000+. i think its relevant to compare cpu hit with convo based because it sounds better and and less cpu load. cpu is also a big deal for me. there is no demo but i can tell you you will not be disappointed with the quality of this reverb

ThanksLee. I only have AMD2000 so I guess I could be looking at closer to 10%. Interesting you say it sounds better than convo. Probably a personal opinion to some degree but obviously sounds very nice. I have a couple of really good reverbs but am just curious as to whether this would add something or double up in some way. I have CSR and WaveArts.

Algorithmic reverb is almost always lower CPU than convolution-based reverb, because the latter is quite computationally intensive. Reverence is _not_ a convolution reverb. It is pure math, front to back. To compare it to other algorithmic reverbs of the same flavor is easy enough. Reverence has about 3/5 the load of Live's built-in reverb. It has about half the load of Princeton Stereo Room. It is about two thirds of Cubase's Reverb A. It has a slightly lower load than Logic's Gold Reverb, and about half the load of Platinum Verb. It also has about half the load of our own Deverb.
Hope that helps. Anyone that has CSR, I'm curious as to how it compares, as that's one I don't have.
