Well, I think you're right, it's just with sliders now, not with knobs (which is great). The thing that confused me a bit, is that in the picture the assignments are done already. I guess if you right click on any of the side panels, a pop menu will appear with all the options. Great!druid wrote:It looks to me like you can do that, to the right of the pad. I assume if you click on the "LFO bla bla" you can choose the target. Am I right grymm?
"flavored" oatmeal skin, download more colors now (v37-4)

Looking very nice! And the maple and brown sugar motif is just delicious. I love maple syrup.

thanks everyone!
yes there are 8 modulation targets on xy pad, and yes you click on the box. should i add little down pointing arrows in a box like a typical window dropdown control to emphasize this point? or no?
i've got lots of chores and crap to do today so dont know if i will have any time to get to the midi page or not
but will do so asap. damn nice weather
hold on and be patient, i promise it will be ready for christmas. i'm a weekend warrior now though so i can't do like i used to so it takes longer.
so far everyone likes the excited version better?
and a "pixel exciter" is a joke -- it's a simple layer set with adjustment layers for levels and hsb. these two layers adjust the contrast(the intensity of the difference between colors), dark, light, and mid values for contrast, and adjust saturation (the intensity of the colors).
i'm really a fan of the non-excited version. take a day and then go look at them both, the non excited one just looks more, i dunno, clean or consistent? the excited version looks a little over-intensified imo. but maybe we can have two versions, since only the bitmaps change and the way oatmeal skin works is everything is on a huge bitmap and regions are defined in the ini file, there is nothing stopping me from putting the same adjustment on the skin as the pixel exciter and just bundling up quickly another skin with slightly diff bitmaps.
i'm off to rake the leaves and do the last of the years yard work. fun fun fun (sarcasm).
see you!

I agree with that.grymmjack wrote:i'm really a fan of the non-excited version. take a day and then go look at them both, the non excited one just looks more, i dunno, clean or consistent? the excited version looks a little over-intensified imo.
The intensified version is not bad, but a bit too "catchy", a bit "violent".
I think it will be easier to sink deep into Oatmeal for hours with the non-excited version.
[edit]
I don't know if my taste changed, or if a new excited version has been put online, but i have put a new eye on the both pictureson the first page, and both versions are fine !
[edit]
In fact, what i like less in the excited version is that the saturation is a bit too strong, but what i like is that it is less "neutral grey", a bit warmer with beige taint.

I reckon the 'excited' version is more immediate, but the non-excited version may be better for playing with long term.

a well designed & attractive/ergonomic GUI can make a synth that much easier to use/program etc. though.

I like the contrast of the excited version better. Easier to visually parse items, to my eyes.

Man, this is very nice! Great work again, Rick! So much controls in a quiet small size with a usable way, that is great design, I have to admit.
However I find this GUI relatively too small for my current monitor and resolution [1280×960]. Those 5×3 pixels characters are exhausting to my eyes. I did a quick resizing with the screenshot, this GUI would be the best [for me] if it would be bigger with 30 percents.
But maybe I'm in the minority regarding the GUI size, so I stop the whining.

Rick,
there are three types of EQ;
LowShelf, HighShelf and Peak/Notch ( and OFF ).
Looks like you can only switch yours On/Off ?
Am I correct, or aren't you finnished yet ?
Looks GREAT so far.

grymmjack: No need for drop down menu style arrows, it's fine as it is.
And as for which gui is better, I guess offering both excited and non-excited versions would be great.
Thanks again.

I'd vote for the non-exited version.
