I would only see that as a threat if I spent big dollars on an app, which I don't do...pretty much specifically for that reason...I mean, that's almost like saying you're giving up being single to get married!

Ì recorded a world-famous chamber orchestra with a world-famous violin soloist in my home city's biggest concert hall last night, using Reaper with one of the new "Coffee & Cream" style skins - and found myself unexpectedly a little uncomfortable with the look of the thing with the hall's sound staff around. The older look was perhaps actually more pro and functional looking - there's a danger that the current early skins can look a bit "toy DAW" or "me too" or "home studio"(though the guys producing them have done great work, and I'm just talking about my personal preferences). Perhaps in due course (it's early days!) there will be a more restrained skin - something good looking that none the less doesn't try to be a picture of something real - 'cos we all know it isn't!
Meanwhile, I'm not sure that I agree with comments above about the dangers of design by committee - personally I find myself assembling various components of the current beta-ish skins to produce what works best visually for me.
It's all a bit of a novelty and distraction at present. Normalcy will return soon I don't doubt when the novelty wears off.

So I made a very civilized chamber music theme for Art and other classics

Child play of course in comparison with White Tie's new advanced theme...

Check it over at the Cockos forum

I'm curious, Dandruff, where you've had problems with reaper's pdc? The only one I ever had was attributable to the fact that pdc doesn't work when a track is in record. Other than that it's been bulletproof.Dandruff wrote:Cubase and Nuendo have. At least for my needs.kL wrote:In fact, I don't think any host has better PDC than Reaper.

Nevertheless, it's nice to know what can be done with Reaper's look, and the answer is: a fu.k.n. lot!
Cheers!

I think if I had to do a 12h project on that thing I'd lose my eyes. People still don't know what's good for their eyes: White text on a black background! MicroShit teaches its droids well: use black font on white background and lose your eyes. Unbelievable, people still buy that. Can't you change the bloody colours? Can't you see that white text on blac background is better for your eyes? Google a bit and you'll see...
believe me, I'm one of those who can't do anything if it's for more than a day, but in one day you can do wonders if you really give yourself in [and if your eyes don't suffer too much from black on white].
Cheers!
p.s. I think I've had enough wine, sorry.

Yeah, I argued about the skins that White Tie was proposing as being toylike, but all the bedroom kiddies seem to have gotten their way. Now it's almost as stupid looking as FL Studio. Imagine recording your orchestra with that!Art Evans wrote:Ì recorded a world-famous chamber orchestra with a world-famous violin soloist in my home city's biggest concert hall last night, using Reaper with one of the new "Coffee & Cream" style skins - and found myself unexpectedly a little uncomfortable with the look of the thing with the hall's sound staff around. I think that Justin must be putting energy into the skinning aspect of the program, because it worked well with Winamp. However Winamp wasn't designed to be a pro audio app. I just can't see engineers going into multiple studio environments, being happy with a variety of skins to have deal with. I would find it annoying and distracting.
Well, hopefully somebody, with good taste, will come up with a new potential default skin that looks appropriate.

I agree. Though the themes look "cooler" then the original Reaper, and IMO probably a bit better in many areas, they are ALL like toys so far. A skin doesn't always say much about the program, but it CAN affect what outsiders think.
I have yet to see a theme that I would be comfortable using for a longer period of time, nonetheless one that I would even use in the first place.
Still better then it used to be, in a couple ways.
