Here are my final comments:

djsubject, had an disadvantage because of his urban-hip hop style which didnt get far with the supplied sounds. Funny enough it didnt stop Subz for bringing more beats up front. Competition spirit of highest class. (6)

dacaumodo, brought us technical advanced programming with his first submission but i like the soundtrack better. dacaumodo got top points for the soundtrack. (8)

Electrobop, blev me away with a super nice intro and very melodic theme but the mix could have been better. (7)

HiEnergy, i like the bassline figure and the automation but it wasnt enough, it was too simple (5)

Echo Voodoo, really like the overall 80's feel and my fav was How Seldom They Do, the gate synth sounded a bit out of place to me, so (6)

mleghorn, just plain original which gives it an (8)

mabian, funny about mabian, i was sure i had you as winner but on closer look dacaumodo and mleghorn got 1 point more than you. (7)

VitaminD, nice tempo, build up and melody but seems uncomplete compared to others so (6)

emaiale, nice melody, good build up of the a+b+c parts, mix too dark, would have prefered a snare rather than the clap. (7)

Voting round up:

HiEnergy could have made this easy for me but he DIDNT ;)

So after careful consideration i proclaim all participants as winners of the Zebra Oldskool Soundset, it is the only sane thing to do. The competition spirit have been wayyy better than i thought it ever could be. I salute you guys for fair play :hail:

Urs, guess what, i dont think you have to worry about picking a winner ;)

So all of you, PM me your mail address and we will take it from there. Remember the soundset is not out yet but we might aswell get the mail thing fixed right away.

maybe i should face facts & stop posting @ KvR & join some dodgy Urban forum where they all share warez links & will tell me "wow subz you tune roxxaz"
no,no no, Subz.

Your beats are off the hook, I've been following your music.
I love what you did with the in "That's cool" and the message in that song.
I have even been to you mysace page.

To me you are great! :hihi:

Electrobop
Thanks Electrobop

but i was playing hard done by :hihi:

i cant see me stopping posting here any time soon :D (they just made me a yellow coat <well yellow name> so it seems i'm stuck here anyhow) :hihi:

i kind of like the fact that hip hop is not so hot here, it helps me be one of the better hip hop producers here :hihi:

i love me & my music (well some of it is shit but hay i still love me) & for some sad reason i love KvR

KvR took me from being a dyslexic verbal only dood to a respected <by some> community member, Moderator & Beta Tester (not to mention i have done Demo Tracks for some of the biggest names in Production tools (energyXT, E-MU, Mackie, Uhe, Linplug, Rob Papen & others :) )

not to also mention i got to mix down my own tracks at bbc radio1 madia vail studios (not sure how its spelt  ) now that was a nice setup  & the late great john peel played my stuff on prime time radio 1 & BBC World service :o

Life & KvR has been good to me :)

So dont expect me to go off in a huff any time soon :D i'm just a big happy kid that likes to play the ass from time to time,

mind you, now i'm a yellow name i should try to play the ass alot less

anyhoo, i'll stop blabbleing now :)

just didn't want any of you to feel bad for voting honestly!!

Respect to all

Subz (your friendly yellow coat :) )

:o

*sniff* *sniff* I love you, man!

@subz - not the only one without a vote. :hihi:
But thanks to Michael's incredible generousity, we still win!

Post

wow :o

I'm wondering though what you meant by 'not complete' with regard to my entry.. it has intro.. buildup.. release.. and ending.. ?

but I'll be the first to say its not mixed well.. thats primarily because (a) I dont have monitors.. only some ~3" computer speakers and (b) it wasnt a mixing competition I didn't think, so I figured I didn't have to worry much about this..

djsub: you had a ton of great ideas I thought but they were so short.. though if anything, by entering so many mini entries, you've shown how the oldskool set can be used for various genres.. which is a cool feat! 8)

Thanks Michael!

And, once again, thanks to all participants.
This has been a refreshing experience for me, I hope it's possible to start some collaboration now that we know each other (at least a little on the musical side).

Dacaumodo has done an awesome work (technical and emotional, as you said) and mleghorn had the "bravery" to propose something really different, so I think I must simply be happy and satisfied to be just behind them.

Anyway, I'd be curious to know Urs's choice, but I guess we'll never know...

Now you know the question everybody here is going to ask you: when will the complete soundset be ready ? :hihi:

PM already sent :)

Unfortunately yesterday I had no network access as I wasn't at home all day, so I missed my opportunity to cast a vote. :-(
I regret not having been on the 'net yesterday.

Otherwise this would have been a very tough decision for me, so many really good entries to select just one of.

That is a wonderful decision, Michael. Thank you for that great competition.

stay tuned

Cool stuff :)

Wife demands all attention this weekend (trips to nature and other weird stuff) so I couldn't really come up with a fair decision.

Later,

it was nuts listening to the voice i heard on the radio since being a baby saying my name & playing my tack

its more than i ever dreamed i would get! (would have been happy to get played on pirate radio just once :) )

Still, what a lucky bunch of winners we are :D

Congrats to all :tu:

We started this competition in a friendly manner and kept it like this until the very end and i love happy endings

About my comments, well what i said is based on my own wicked way of percieving others work. Sometimes its hard to put down in few words what you really mean but i always try to be as honest as possible even if it might hurt a bit. Things like, the clap should have been a snare or something felt as uncomplete was the exact feeling i had. :? I'm old skool'ish remember ;)

Anyway, these 44 patches kept us going for 14 days and now you got 512 waiting for you. Going to be interesting and i wish you all good luck with the music making and have fun doing it ;)

The release of the soundset it just around the corner so hang in there...

Until next time....

Why not a contest with the complete 512 patches set? Just for fun!
