It could have something to do with the fact that you can record most of the actions  The exact scripting syntax has been adopted from the 1st CEP version. I don't think Adobe has even touch it at all.

To 'learn' more about AA's scripting simply hit record in the script window, performing the task and then edit the script. You'l get a better understanding that way instead of attempting writing out the script from scratch or from documentation.

Also VST parameters are saved in a hashlike form that would be pretty much impossible to write by hand.

For instance heres a script that applys an eXT effect in AA.

Code: Select all

Title: Get ext hash
Description:
Mode: 4
Undo: 1

Selected: 0 to 626219 scaled 626219 SR 44100
Freq: Off
cmd: Channel Both

Glad I could "clarify" :D...

On a related note ever notice AA gets hung up or lags around in memory when you try to close it?
If so you should take a look at the AUDITION.INI file in your \Application Data\Adobe\Audition\*VERSION* folder. This is where Audition stores all of the preset data and settings for its internal effects and external VST/DX plugins.

This file can get quite huge and can make AA's shutdown process stall out on your system. It happened to me, AA would take forever to fully close, it was not on the screen but I could see it's exe still in tasks. The INI was 64 megs and impossible to open with any standard text editor. After I deleted it AA would shutdown lightening fast again.

It is safe to erase it (AA generates a new one on launch).
The downside to deleting it is that IT WILL ERASE ALL YOUR CUSTOM PRESETS saved in AA. You can open the file if its not too big and edit out the long strings that some plugins generate. I find the main culprits are wrapped VSTs like Waves shell plugins, FXpansion DX<->VST wrappers, Asseca's DX/DXi/MFX wrappers and SpinAudio VST-DX Wrapper/Wrapper Lite and also VSTs that host other VSTs like eXT, Bidule, Usine, FL etc.

BTW it will not erase your favorites or scripts so if you really need to keep a custom settings you can store them in either place while your cleaning the INI.

You mean custom presets too, when you say "custom settings"?

Please clarify again. :)

Let me explain.

The preset/custom setting can be created when you open any effect (built in VST or DX), tweak the effect and then press the Add button to the right of 'Presets' and name the setting. This adds it to the Presets area of the effect dialog box.

If you plan on cleaning your INI file out these presets you've created will be deleted.

The way around loosing all your custom presets is to either:

- Record a script then run the preset (on a blank file), save it in scripts and then clean the INI. When you've cleaned the INI, run the script again go back open the effect and the settings will still be there. Add them to the list again.

OR

- Run the preset (on a blank file), go to Favorites, press New, click Copy From Last (You should see the effect Pop up under Audition Effect and the settings in the box below, Name it and click Save. After you've cleaned the INI go back to favorites and select the one you just created it will apply it to the blank audio. Open the effect again, it should be set up the way you ran it and press Add name it again.

Remember you MUST DO THIS BEFORE you delete the INI file or you will loose yours! So take care.

At current I've found no way to retain effects presets in the Multitrack.

Cleaning or Deleting the INI WILL ERASE THE PRESETS IN THE MULTITRACK PERMANENTLY!!!

This sucks as a custom rack can be even more valuable than than a single custom effect!!

Does anyone remember those Plugins that were made just for Adobe Audition and CEP? It was a bundle that added functions to the built in plugins and even added a new set of buttons in the tool bar?

They were kind of like this one

and another

But a whole set of them.

Nice links, and thanks for explaining the presets thing.

Are you telling me you didnt know of the audiomasters forum until now? :P :)

Please share your experience with vst plugins in this thread:

The Audiomasters forum was set up when Adobe bought Syntrillium and many users of the former excellent Synt forum were less than happy with the Adobe forums. They maintain the old Syntrillum forums "on ice" so you can still search for Cool Edit related stuff there.

Ozpeter: Btw, you work for Adobe and worked for Syntrillium before right? The same guy as on the Adobe Audition forum?

I'm the "host" (moderator) of the Adobe Audition forum (and other forums) on the Adobe site but I don't work for them - it's a volunteer position (pity!). I was just a rank and file member of the Syntrillium forums and had no other connection with the company.

To you AA users: Is there anything that is better in Adobe Audition 1 than in version 3?

Apologies for the late reply.

Adobe released v1.0 without any changes from Cool Edit when they bought Syntrillium.

v1.5 , new spectral editing tools and basic video editing support bridging with Adobe premiere and after effects

v2.0 included major additions like full automation recording, supported ASIO,
CD project editing mode

v3.0 has heaps more additions. refer to the change log because there too much to type. http://www.kvraudio.com/news/7759.html

Im waiting on AA 4, and hope it will include multiple MIDI I/O

I'm disappointed that the scripting doesn't seem to be recording several things. One is putting a small fade using the fade handles at the beginning of an audio file. I had some samples that somehow had some clicks get through on the front of them(which happens with samples a lot). I had to edit them one at a time(there were a LOT!) because the script didn't work.

Maybe I did something wrong?
