Weird. That's how things got exported from Logic. I'll figure out what's going on.
And now Logic has crashed, when I tried to open up a (non-Valhalla DSP) plugin n the 32-bit Audio Unit bridge. Grrr. The plugin in question works fine in all 32-bit hosts, so I'm going to lay the blame on the audio bridge itself.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the project beforehand, so I need to redo the audio files. Fortunately, I have the preset I used listed above, so I can paste the code into VRoom and get the same sound. So I've got that goin' for me. Which is nice.

Any of you mac guys gonna post some vocal examples ?
I have been loaned some Lexicon Hardware and right now i am thinking that Hardware is the only way to go on a budget right now, but still interested to hear what this can do

OK, things re-exported, in stereo this time:

100% wet

50% wet

 good stuff.

and can you layer valhalla room like shimmer one ontop of the other to create even more interesting reverbs?

one thing i still haven't heard from any reverb is aether-style reverb drone, where the modulation is really low, but has a searing or more of a cutting edgy sound instead of metallic.

i thought maybe valhalla room with almost 0 modulation could do this, but I'm guessing not.

Thanks!

VRoom isn't designed for that, in the same way that it works for Shimmer. The Shimmer stereo algorithms tend to fit together like Legos, such that connecting them in series is similar to the internal construction. VRoom has more complicated internal connections, that can't be replicated by connecting stereo in to stereo out.

That being said, you certainly layer VRoom instances if you want. I just tried 3 in series, and it was a pretty cool sound.

I'm not quite sure what type of effect you are talking about. You can turn the modulation down to zero in VRoom and certainly have a non-metallic sound. Using large Late Size settings will give you the modal density you need for very long decays with very little audible repetition (theory dictates that you will hear some sort of repetitive artifact at the sum of the delay lengths without modulation, but well-chosen delay lengths, and long enough delays, help to minimize this). The modulation is different per algorithm, with the Large Room and the Large Chamber using a "detuning" modulation that can be turned up without incurring random pitch shifts.

Seriously? I thought this was Aether's signature sound. Can someone who owns Aether please post a demo of this? I know you Aether owners know what I'm talking about. If not... well then I'll be very confused. :?

Well then, it sounds like Aether has it covered for ya. :D

...and time elapses...

Are you talking about the high frequency decay of Aether when oversampling? This is an area where Andrew and I have discussed different methods of getting similar sounds in a few forum threads. My philosophy is to use the interpolation that is best suited to the particular algorithm, and design around its characteristics. For example, the Large Room and Large Chamber have a natural attenuation of high frequencies for very long decays, as is found in any physical space (due to absorption of high frequencies by the air, which varies with humidity). The Bright Room algorithm doesn't have this attenuation, and will sizzle away for the whole 100 seconds if you want it to.

Haha, at five times the price? I think not, it's a waste of money and that sound I'm talking about may be the only thing it's good for. I'll have to download Aether demo, get the signature sound going, then give you a dry and wet.

Ok - enough chit-chat about Aether. Love it.

Can we just move on to the Windows version of VRoom so the proletariat can slobber amongst themselves about the decaying tails of unmodulated lab rat scat vocals samples using VRoom as an insert instead of an imaginary send?

Thank you.

great to see it finally released

Those sound very lush and really rather nice,

any chance we could get some more, erm, room-y examples, pref on drums/perc?

Post

Ok, I'm back. Check this out

Dry piano

Shimmer, searing reverb

Aether, searing reverb

now let's hear VRoom's version of this.

Alright, challenge accepted! Crank it up and listen to the decay. No modulation.

Vroom, smooth decay forever

The settings, if anyone's interested.

Code: Select all

<ValhallaRoom pluginVersion="1.0.1" presetName="Default" mix="1" predelay="0.00659999996" decay="0.503903925" HighCut="0.530201316" earlyLateMix="0.598999977" lateSize="0.75999999" lateCross="1" lateModRate="0.0909090936" lateModDepth="0" RTBassMultiply="0.50666666" RTXover="0.0909090936" RTHighMultiply="0.466666669" RTHighXover="0.530201316" earlySize="0.0290290285" earlyCross="0.100000001" earlyModRate="0.559595942" earlyModDepth="0" earlySend="0.439999998" diffusion="1" type="0"/>
EDIT: how do i get those cool play buttons?

EDIT2: I should note that this is the first time I'm playing with Vroom. On second listen, I'd turn down the bass multiplier a bit.
