I actually wasn't talking about offline mode there. That was my first question, will there be an offline mode, and it was answered straight away with (paraphrase) "Sure, later on."

I was talking more about all the other stuff that will come up re:... "Do this like Logic, or Ableton, or PT, or whatever." ... and be the bestest DAW ever.

Inevitable.

I like the idea behind it, can't wait to see the daw evolves.

I don't like that it has no AU, but I'm going to give this a try.

I like the idea a lot and think that everything being updated instantaneously is nice actually. Then you can see what ideas someone else is working on, without having to wait for them to decide if they like it or not to post/send it. That way other can hear and decide if they see potential for any of the ideas/patterns. Sometimes this can spurt tangent ideas.

I'm going to go for it and see how well it gets along with my Mac.

I tried Ohmstudio last night and I was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty easy to use. I went into it cold without watching any vids or looking at an overview and was able to compose and intro for a song.

First impressions are that I like the immediacy. My favorite thing was probably the zoom in/out for patterns. There's a square on each pattern you make and you can click that square for each pattern and it opens up a full piano roll. There are other ways to open up part of the piano roll also. I like options. Setting my tracks up was easy. So far, I think this thing is good.

One thing I didn't like, the patterns I made didn't seem to begin and end directly on each bar. I don't know if it was something I was doing, but instead of starting on 1.0.0.0, it was starting on 1.3.0.0 or something like that when I drew new patterns. And I had some issues dragging the patterns around.

My background is mainly Logic and the issues I had were probably lack of experience. So I'm going to watch some vids on this and maybe read a little so I know how to work more efficiently in this environment. But so far it seems very straight forward. Easy to pick up with half an hour.

But I'm looking forward to collaborating, which I will be doing later this week.

Snap in automatic mode behaves differently depending if you are in the arrange view or in the pattern editor. You can adjust manually the snap to match your requirements (especially the relative/absolute modes).

Thanks for the tip.

I must say the learning curve is minimal for Ohmstudio if you have used Logic. I think once I learn all the commands/techniques for this, it will possibly speed up my workflow. I hope. We'll see, but so far I like it.

I'm going read over the Ohmstudio guide to get more tips and my workflow streamlined.

I do hope that AU comes it's way, as I'm liking Ohmstudio more and more (when I learn new workflow tricks).

Because Ohmstudio was first to the punch making their DAW realtime collaborative, they deserve many praises no matter which DAW decides to do it next. I've been wanting this ability for a long time.

That's a kind thing to say, thank you. We've been invested quite deeply in this. Actually I hope there are no shortcut to create that level of integration of online collaboration into a sequencer that we missed. If such shortcut doesn't exist, thus, iI thing it will be pretty tough - if even possible - for any existing sequencer to catch up on the online features. It's one thing to facilitate files exchange but real time synchronization with no version conflict ever, it's another beast !

So now that its been out for a little while, whats everyones thoughts on it?

Hows the "community" aspect of "working together" on a song? Is it "tight"?

Im thinking of giving it a try, but im weary of beta programs....

Nothing will better answer your question than real user testifying (although for now they seem to be either busy with actually making music either watching the Euro championship) but in the meantime this might give you some clues.

Also that guy made a first review on his blog. Don't expect real press test until the beta is over, IMO.

Some pretty early feedback on our forum as a bonus.

Just in case anyone feels like finding out what "collaboration" is but hasn't anyone lined up to collaborate with, the Ohm guys are making it easy:

(So long as you can convert from coordinated universal time to local time, taking into account local daylight savings time, that is. ;) )

Lol, it probably took us one hour just to figure out when to fix the appointments. Here's the flyer BTW :

So was there any word on price yet?

I'm wondering about sample sharing. Is it possible to share samples that I have on my computer with someone else so they can use them?

I don't think there is a way to load samples on the project, so everyone can use the same samples if wanted/needed. So my work around is this: I'm thinking I could make a track dedicated to samples - I mean record the samples seperately one by one (and freeze the track just to hear which sample to cut), so anyone can cut the audio loop up to have and use the samples.

Post

That comes down to licensing, I'd have thought.

Post

Licensing or not, I'm wondering if there is an easier way than recording my samples one by one into a single audio clip, so another person can cut them up and use them.

People using others samples is going to happen anyway. It's been happening for decades. Big names in the industry have been doing it for a long time. I don't understand what the issue is.

I think it would be indispensable to have some sort of sample 'bank' to hold samples for a project.
