DC8C is a no-brainer for the price, Then have one or the other of the more priey jobs if DC8C does not cover all You're needs (a modern VCA job aimed at the overall mix, FWIW I always go for either one of VoS's jobs but most likely the Waves API, Its fantastic, That and DC8C are a killer combo IMveryhumbleHO along with the Variety Of Sound dynamic processors and vladg/sounds offerings also)

Hope that helps but really there is no 'best' just what does it for You and You're material really. So demoing closely is definately you're best bet :)

On my headphones Anthony mate, I am liking the added oomphh/weighty sound of example b whichever one it is is really beefs that electronic groove up without any unwanted/audible side effects to my humble ears. So for this little test on personal preference b takes it for me

Nice one dude and all the best you're way and to all as always :)

Please beat up my dad.
Not me or my dad, SSL hardware. It's sure to smash, punch, crush, glue, collate and even staple your dad and his bus compressor, unless of course he is of sturdy cat herder stock. Then he might have a chance. Survival of the dusk to dawn repetitive level-matched shin-kicking ritual is probably the greatest challenge. Imbibing just the right amount of the shaman's secret hallucinogenic brew is the key. It's all downhill from there.

Me too.

The original is the best for me. b comes second. But these are only in the drum bus. The processed loops might sound different and fit in better in a full mix.

DC8C is a good compressor to use on a master bus?

ummm...why not? - arguably, it the closest it comes to the swiss army knife of comps (maybe the UBK1 too, based on what i've read). The DC8C covers a lot of ground. I think of it more as like 4 compressors. while the myriad of SSL-type comps do one thing...hopefully decently, the DC8C can do many other tasks, in some instances, better than many of its contemporaries whose intent is only one of the compressor 'styles' which the DC8C is capable of.

Yes, I think it would make for a great, transparent master bus comp.

I'm beggining to assemble my VST arsenal... Don't know yet which compressor to pick.

It's a tough call. There are a shitload of really good ones, and really.....you can nitpick to death.

For me, busspressor did as advertised at (well, it's gone up) a really good price. I'd have bought the glue a while back but again, the fact that as andy put it "mousewheel is broken in windows" and that it hasn't been unbroke put me off.

I like mousewheel for nice fine control! :hyper:

I level matched them to .1 dB by RMS leaving a little headroom. To me, a, b and c are fairly similar. The clap envelope on c seems to sweep up more than a and b, where a tapers down a little and b plateaus. The original decays a lot and sounds almost gated by comparison. Looping abc with various low pass filters, the low end is remarkably consistent level-wise, but there maybe a little difference in envelope shape.

Concusion: I never want to hear that loop again.

I admire you sir!

Level matched, it's a tough call because of the differences in envelope shaping. But, if I have to, I pick C.

edit : peak matched i like A and C , got better sound with duende comp but it was probably more about the setting used , just swithcing the attack or release a little can make things worst or better :)

I would have liked more feedback, but here are the answers:

A = The Glue
B = Vertigo
C = BussPressor

From the results, it seems that not that many people went for BussPressor. Taking this into consideration it looks like my thoughts about people liking it because it's a "shiny new toy" are right.

Anyone that decides to jump in now and say anything regarding the audio demos such as "C" is my favorite is no longer valid. You're supposed to submit your thoughts before the answers a revealed. Someone on Gearslutz had a hard time grasping this concept.
