I was going to do something quick and dirty for this month as I've been really getting into PD synthesis with Bazille. I had a nice little hat sound rocking and when I went to save the preset, Live crashed.
Mission aborted.
But, just thought that I'd add that I really like simple interfaces like this, except, the knobs should have a non-circular motion option.

Been there yeah - it sucks. Be trigger happy on the ctr+s or cmd+s when working on OSC. Save after most minor changes - as it's usually like 1/2 second to save nowadays. With any major change, save as a completely new project, so you have a history of changes, and can revert if a file is corrupted.ghettosynth wrote:I was going to do something quick and dirty for this month as I've been really getting into PD synthesis with Bazille. So after every OSC I usually have like 10-25 projects saved.

+1 Saving is like a nervous twitch for me in general - not just in music apps. Big file cleanup session when project is finishedbjporter wrote:Been there yeah - it sucks. Saving is one area where Studio One shines... it's automatic history and Save As Version features have saved me from quite a few inexplicable oopsies. I don't even bother with multiple copies of the project anymore, now that I trust the history features. Plus, saving runs in the background and, recently at least, doesn't even interrupt playback.
Was having that discussion re circular knobs just yesterday, in fact. Knobs are aesthetically pleasing (at least to hardware aficionados), space-efficient, and give intuitive, pattern-recognizable feedback as to their collective state (the angle they're at). However, they are a terrible match for mouse and touch interaction, especially with circular motion. Almost unusable, IMHO. Synth1 actually has the best compromise I've seen: visually they are knobs, but when you start interacting with them, a translucent linear slider overlay appears. Would like to see more devs adopt that approach.

Didn't have much time this month but managed to get a track together. Digits can be quite raw sounding but it does do very nice 80s style basses!
Enjoy
https://soundcloud.com/pedalsteeldrumme ... asprotocol
1980s John Carpenter-style sci-fi soundtrack.
TRACK NOTES:
Created for the KVR One-Synth-Challenge 67: digits.
All sounds from Extent of the Jam's digits VSTi synth. I used some of the included presets plus my own custom patches.
17 instances of "digits". Mixed/mastered in Cockos Reaper 4.721/64 with native fx (ReaEQ, ReaComp, ReaDelay) and free fx (Voxengo Marvel GEQ/OldSkoolVerb, SmartElectronix Ambience, Klanghelm IVGI, Vladislav Goncharov Molot/Limiter No6).

Just to make sure I didn't miss anything... does anyone know if there's a way to modify the pitch bend range in Digits?

@z.prime, i'm sorry for the length.. it sometimes just happens.
and i'm pretty sure there is no way to modify the bend-range of digits, which is +/-2 no matter how hard you try

Length is no problem. I was hoping someone knew a magic trick for the bend range... of all the things, though - why +/- 2? why not just put it at an octave at least, so you can still bend 2! don't really need it, but would have been nice.keith303 wrote:@z.prime, i'm sorry for the length.. it sometimes just happens.

i guess +/-2 is more feasible when playing the synth live and +/-12 would've been better for automation stuff.
looking forward to your entry!

Here is my entry:

OK, I have never been to Australia! I live on the opposite side of the globe, but once I started shaping specific sounds on Digits, I had to go for this!
11 Instances of Digits, recorded, mixed and mastered on Podium Free 3.2
CHANNEL EFFECTS USED:
7 Instances of Easy Q
1 Instance of TAL Dub Delay
1 Instance of IQ4GUI Dynamic EQ
1 Instance of DX Reverb Light
MASTER CHANNELS EFFECTS USED:
DLM SixtyFive Compressor
Sonic Assault 10-Band EQ
Lively Audio Maxwell Smart sonic maximizer
Voxengo Span metering plugin
I really like Digits for the most part. It has that great combination of digital and analog-like tones, colorful when it wants to be, fat when it needs to be. I loved the control over the LFO! The only things I would change would be a little more control over the envelope. I originally wanted some longer release times for pads. Also, there is some weird puffy digital noise that comes from it, but that's the nature of digital synthesis. Through all of that, I got some great colors, and the timbres I wanted.
Good Luck Everyone!

Hello and welcome to the OSC. You'll find many nice and helpful people here with lots of good advice on sounds, soundstages, mixing, mastering etc etc. I know I did when I joined in a few months ago.rokces wrote: This my first involvement in OSC.
