Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

There is no question it sounds great. And if I didn't already own more synths than I should, I'd probably get it. I certainly like the way it sounds more than Rayblaster and Electra 2, which I definitely now feel are overpriced. But that was a long time ago when I got them and wasn't as savvy as I am now.

No. The oscillator is a rewrite - has a great deal in common sonically, but significant new features & far better CPU efficiency at high polyphony on modern CPUs. More range on the subs, sub-unlink, phase-reset, tone controls, Hz and Beat based detuning, waveshaper on sub,is it exactely the same filters, osc as strobe 1? it's the same audio engine i have read somewhere is that true?
The filter is the same topology, but again there are substantial changes under the hood, gain-compensation on the overdrive (so the tone changes as you drive the filter but volume stays mostly constant), bleedthrough, smooth transition between different modes (no clicking when switching from LPF to HPF, say). There are some subtle changes to the saturation in the filter core, but that's mostly not audible.

I just got word from my Sweetwater sales guy that Strobe 2 is going to be selling on their site (he's putting a special order in for me, but apparently you'll be seeing up globally very soon).
This includes Angus' upgrade price, a price I would pay in full if not for the fact that Reaktor 6 came out first, making me very happy to instead take advantage of Sweetwater's three payment plan.
I believe that makes it about $26.33 a month, 36.33 for the first month only. I'd hope that should appease at least some people having that are problems with the price.

No because you're still paying the same price... except now you're breaking it up into payments and owing for something you already have for many months after... so its even worse in that situation. An installment plan on (hobby) software seems absurd to me.
I figure the price is the price.. you'll either buy it or not. Software prices decay over time so eventually there will be a sale/reduction in price.. and those who like the sound but not the price might buy then. Either way life progresses forward..

May I have a definition of "hobby software", please?
And is there a reason people are so adamant about repeating their distaste for the price? If you said it once, why keep defending it? Others seem to like it just fine, does that make them hobbyists? Because that definitely does not apply to some people here, trust me on this.
No offense meant to anyone. It just seems strange that some people would be so adamant. Don't buy it, nobody cares.

I agree with you W. If you've got lots of stuff already, then there's no need for an overlap per se.
Ahem... Although, I did purchase it, and I've lots of stuff.
But weighing up price and products that you already own is always going to be a factor. So, a lower price is always going to be an incentive for people in that situation.
U-he are great for this, and I kinda' apply it to Strobe 2 as well (even tho' it's an upgrade). That is to say, always buy your product at the intro price where you can. It can save you a nice bit of doh in the end.

One of the reasons KVR exists, is that people can complain about things and the pricing of an instrument upgrade is always worth a rant.

Yes I see that.. But why finance entertainment? That is what a hobby is.. Why not just save until you can buy it outright and then it is yours.. no catches.. no installment plans.. no owing anyone anything else.Robmobius wrote:But maybe not to others...VitaminD wrote: An installment plan on (hobby) software seems absurd to me. .
I wouldn't finance a trip to the movies or a disney ticket.. same category.
And this 180 dollar price is sticking around.. it isn't a limited time offer. Nor is the upgrade fee. So there is no financial advantage to rush out now and get it...
But yes.. if it works for you.. then by all means.. it just seems to be a very dangerous mentality to get into.. installment plans for everything..

Same category for who? Does that include, for example, the people here who make money from music? I don't think that would go over well for them. Them includes me.
Perhaps your definition describes more your own relationship with making music. Again, no offense.
