ok, from about 3 posts back i have totally lost the thread now. here is one way to do what you want. the only thing you need to do is make a pattern and make it the length of the longest number of bars. then simply copy shorter loops within the piano roll and CTRL + B until they match the overall length of the pattern. you can also trim the lengths of patterns in the playlist which is something i do all the time. it's close to something like ableton clips. as also suggested you can make each beat have it's own channel and pattern.and again you can chop up patterns in the playlist window. These ways are so much improved on just using the little patterns in the channel window. you get so many more options.
as for the positioning of patterns in the playlist, you can simply choose to lock a particular pattern to a specific track. Naming your channels and patterns properly will make things much smoother.
this thread seems to be one of those glass half-empty or glass half-full type.
learning a workflow can be daunting but it took no longer to get across it than learning other daws ( the simplest and easiest i ever used was Acid Pro up till version 3 or 4...)
simply put, you get out what you put in.
and again it is worth reiterating: The Help is one of the best i have seen. if you are clicking on something in FL and you hit F1 you will get ( most of the time) straight to the relevant part. And there is no shortage of forums and such to help you also.
Check outYouTube, SeamlessR or FL Guru to name but 2.

I've had a rough go, but it's stable and things load into it.

The more I hear people say things though, a little tiny bit seeps into the noggin.

Few questions

- Can you point me to examples (videos or articles) about what you mean?
- Is it OK to run version 11 beside version 12 in Windows 10? (Projects and settings would be separated for both?) I believe version 11 has 64bit right?

I'm lost.

I know for a fact that I was having an issue with that after being kinda used to it. Now, it works like I thought it should work.

It's like the matrix is constantly f**king with me.

And the lightbulb goes on with something! I had no idea you could do this (there is a decent reason) but the nektar AND the ipad app CAN change channels. The only thing that sucks (and this FL's weird window issue) is that it opens everything so I'll likely be using F12 a lot

I also (and this is embarrassing) just figured out the "loop" toggles between playlist and patterns. Honestly, no brain ... no gain

Also, channel lock is PERFECT for the ipad

I didn't know you could do this with the app, but you can lock it to something like a groove generator and use that as metronome replacement (which is one of the worst to me)

Now, if if I could just remember that you need to enter a new pattern number in instead of adding the existing one, and I'll be golden!

Damn that sucks.. IL has really messed up everything I liked in stepseq

You can't even quick adjust the velocity or panning anymore.

Those per-step parameters I believe Scott IL said are being brought back for FL 13. I don't know if the "repeat step-sequencer tick box" will be coming back though.
